Re: JP rules - HTA172 violates the charter
I wouldn't even know how to find last weeks stats, much less last year or the year before.
Maybe under the OPP main website, the annual report 2008/2007
http://www.opp.ca/Intranetdev/groups/public/documents/businessservices/opp_002587.pdf
It just does not make a difference to me, calls will happen no matter how many stats there is. Just can't ...

We have to be able to justify our speed (slow or fast) when asked.tdrive2 wrote:Cool but bear do you guys have some sort of limit your not supposed to exceed in a chase or in general?

Again to all of you that say this law has saved so many lives.
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/orsar/orsar04/chp2_04.shtml#ref_2a
(scroll down to 2.8)
I like the part where it mentions speed to fast and to fast for conditions accounts for about 160 out of 1200 collisions, and the fact that some almost 500 or just under half this amount ...

The law was not put into affect by Fantino, but by "your" elected government period.tdrive2 wrote: If this does get repealed this will make big time news. Well if its gets changed i heard Fantino's time is up soon
Fantino has been an excellent leader for us. The most important thing is he supports the very front line officers that work day/night.

Re: Don't run
Besides i heard cops are not supposed to exceed 200 or 180 or something in a pursuit if they have to go faster they are supposed to call ahead?
Does this also apply to emergencies (tractor trail crash on side of hwy, etc)
Every pursuit the air is "open" so units ahead can get in position
The "heard cops" thing is a rumour.
Most calls for ...

I'll pull out my tennis ball (can't afford the crystal ball) and gaze into the fuzzy side ...
The ball is predicting that the future holds a change to part of the act.
The vehicle impoundment part will be removed, but the 7 day suspension will stand.

Re: parking lot ticket question
Lucky did not issue a 3rd ticket: "Fail to have a validated permit" (validation sticker that goes on the licence plate, there is a corresponding sticker that goes on the back of the permit)
There can be 2 charges for the insurance card:
1) Fail to surrender insurance card
2) Fail to have insurance card
Both are a total of $65.

I park at an area which is at an intersection, see directly thru the side windows as the vehicle is stopped at a stop sign.knight_yyz wrote:but you stated you park perpendicular to the road when you are on duty. which means you would be looking through the windshield? .

Re: Zero Tolerance for 1st 5 years of driving...
Bear, do you think BAC is a good measure of the level of impairment?
We are speaking of 2 different things there. There is:
1) Driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood. This is the total amount a person has consumed.
2) Impaired driving - if the symptoms and signs are there after 1 drink, theoretically one could be charged with ...

Re: Zero Tolerance for 1st 5 years of driving...
Bookm....think we did this beer ratio thing before.
Good quick guideline. (weight, sex will affect it, but this is a standard average)
1 drink (beer, glass wine, 1 shot) = 15 mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
2 drinks = 30mgs
3 drinks = 45mgs
4 drinks = 60mgs etc
Body Eliminates 15mgs of alcohol per hour.

Re: 4 Tickets, $440, And NEED ADVICE
Unfortunately, this modern era of policing seems to associate performance with number of tickets written.
I have never been told to write any more or less tickets. Nor have I seen anyone with a handful of tickets for a month get bothered either.
I think the police strategy has become: write multiple tickets so that the crown will negotiate down ...
