Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
For me, that's a whole other issue. I don't agree with the system in place in some of the States, because of exactly what you mention. A death penalty should be reserved for cases with irrefutable evidence like the entire act caught on videotape or witnessed by a group of officers. Otherwise, save it for certain offences for repeat offenders (e.g ...

A parenting license!
Or adopt China's one-child policy (or two-child, since we're not running out of room yet). Lower population densities generally lead to better consideration for others. Monkeyspheres and all that.

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
Not officially, although Harper did change policy to stop seeking clemency for Canadians facing the death penalty on foreign soil. I think it's still way too much of a touchy subject for them to consider bringing back the death penalty in Canada. Does your post mean you won't be voting Conservative?

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
You don't know that traffic won't flow well at 100 km/h, because traffic never flows at that speed unless forced to by an obstruction ahead. I have been in heavily enforced areas of New York State where interstate traffic flows well at around 110 km/h, including the occasional out-of-state RV doing 90 km/h.

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
Speeding is not a criminal act per se . (edit: I'm not using that in the legal definition. I don't even know how to use that in the legal definition.)
What incentive does the MTO have to change the speed limit? Traffic flows above the limit; things just "work". Get everyone to follow the limit, and maybe we'll have traffic backlogs in urban areas ...

Re: Crown Vics/Chargers/Tahoe's
The OPP doesn't get at least a few 4x4 Tahoes? It still uses P-metric tires, so winter tires are available - put those two together and you have a great cruiser for bad winter conditions. I'm not saying the OPP should try to pull cars out of ditches, but outside of a city, there are just some roads where a 4x2 can't go. (And I've been stuck in one ...

Re: Suspicious car on the street
I considered the PI angle, but I figured a PI wouldn't leave the headlights on all the time (unless running computer equipment?). It's also a Mercedes SUV, a bit flashy for a "surveillance vehicle".
I think their local Peel office moved a few years ago; I'll find out where they went and have her give them a call. Thanks.

Suspicious car on the street
I was at my parents' house in Mississauga early this week, and my mother told me about this SUV which always parks down the street for four to six hours a day, headlights on and the occupants inside. When she takes her afternoon walk, she will usually see a man and a woman inside smoking or eating. They have also been littering on the grass next to ...

Re: 142km on 401 going west, near 401 exit to Homer Watson Blvd
42 km/h over the limit is still a minor conviction, and I think most insurance companies will forgive one or two of those. I was with Motors Insurance (GMAC) and they forgave two minor convictions I got when I was 16 and 18, while FiReSTaRT had his rates increased.

I think the plates are called in before a stop in case the car tries to run.

Re: Fines - Laser Detectors & Laser Jammers
We don't have a 400-series nearby, but my G2 Exit did include a stretch of HWY 11 (where the limit is 100). The ramps seem a little shorter, too - I caught a smile on the tester's face when I went to WOT.

Re: Speeding 22km/h over the posted speed limit.
If the MTO says stay in the right hand lane, which makes more sense than the centre, I will start doing that from now on in 3 lane or more, instead of centre.
As I said, I always found that rule weird.

Because the rest of North America suck even more.
And we all have the tools and resources, they're just not crammed down our throats. Some people can't handle having free will to learn on their own.
