Re: What's the proper procedure to pass a car on a 2 lane road?
There's the proper way and then there's the legal way. Legal way is passing at or below the speed limit, taking your sweet time and hoping that there are no oncoming cars. The proper way, in my opinion, would be to get past as quickly as possible and then reduce your speed back to what you are comfortable with. Totally against the law, though, and ...

I'd like them, but now they seem to be closely associated with D-bags that scream at "themselves" in inappropriate settings. Just like BMWs...good car, ruined by D-bags.

Re: Percentage based Speeding Charges
Maybe punishments could be based on percentage. 172 could become the 50% over law...actually makes more sense - 75 in a 50, 90 in a 60...60 in a 40 might be too harsh for impoundment, but then again 40 zones are usually school zones or really narrow streets.

Re: Following too close alternate charge?
Correct. Many insurance companies frown far more on the "follow too close" than defective brakes, particularly with no collision. Your insurer might just ignore it all together.
I thought insurers only differentiated between the "major" and "minor" convictions.
Then again, they'd have to know who I am and my address.
That can be arranged...how ...

Squid = bad motorcycle rider. Not sure where the term comes from, but I've been told that it is because once a squid crashes, the motor oil spill is like ink from the sea creature squid.

Over here we have a "Sidewalk Ends" sign where the paved sidewalk turns into a dirt shoulder. That big yellow sidewalk sign just happens to completely block a "right lane ends" sign installed two metres behind it.

Unless the cruisers get expensive deep-cycle batteries, they wouldn't want to run them down constantly as that will quickly kill the battery (five or six cycles will destroy a lead-acid starter battery).
I do hear of cruisers running out of juice, though. I remember one a while back that ran down the battery from the light bar and happened to be ...

Re: Recommendations for college courses before applying/testing.
I'm not sure as I haven't gone through the process yet, but I don't think you can. You are expected to go wherever they put you, be it a large urban centre or a small northern town of 50 guys. They consider allowing families to stay put if they have strong roots or children, but that's not up to you and you can still be relocated far away if the ...

Re: Recommendations for college courses before applying/testing.
I think Cadets get the training in Orillia, and maybe even a shortened course at OPC. They don't get full training. A Cadet application for constable gets fast-tracked through the system as the background checks and psych evaluations don't need to be done again. Letters of reference can come from people you worked with as a Cadet. I don't think ...

Re: Recommendations for college courses before applying/testing.
I've heard the same about Police Foundations. There are a few good, useful courses, and the rest are filler. All the information will be taught at OPC. As almost anyone can get into these college courses, recruiters don't give you much credit for taking a "law enforcement" course over someone with any other degree. What seems to be most important ...

And also make it illegal to drive without shoes.
Hey, why? When I teach new drivers, I start them out shoeless. You get better control over the pedals and all you have to do is make sure the shoes are out of the way and to move the seat forward one notch. I have adapted to driving with steel-toed boots, but some people either don't wear thick ...

How about on a military base? That would qualify as "federal land," right? Do regular police officers have authority on a military base, and do military police have authority across Ontario (or Canada)?

I wasn't training specifically for PREP, it was more like 'how much running do I expect to do to chase someone down?' Running has always been my weakest point and might be the biggest obstacle to me getting hired.
Although I suppose I should train for PREP and worry about chasing people after I get in. Do you remember how many pushups are required ...

I missed the part about the weekly progressions. That makes more sense and makes it tougher. I do have about 150 m of flat grass-30 degree hill-flat grass if I run parallel to my house, but the ground is too wet right now and I would just tear it up.

I see lots of "monsters" at the gym......and super strong, but only 2% only do real cardio. So things would be bad if they got hold of you in the first 30 seconds, but after a minute the cardio would prevail......just have to look at UFC for all that, guys gas out with poor cardio, then get really "rocked".

As I understand it, Ontario cops don't have any real jurisdiction. A TPS officer can go issue tickets in Ottawa if he wanted to. The ticket would be valid, but he might have to explain to the bosses how he ended up in Ottawa.

Haha, well I only come up with a new sandwich every three months or so. My daily diet is much more regular with occasional spikes of insanity. Wow, 50s. My resting heart rate is somewhere in the high 70s, but shoots up to 120 or so after just 500 m. I can just barely get out 1 km before running out of breath - not very good at all. The OPP website has some material that says I should aim for 2.7 km in 11 minutes to pass the PREP shuttle run. I say just hand out those long-range rifle ...
