Re: self-testing devices

The LIDAR test I'm not familiar with so I really can't say. What we really need are some internal diagrams of the device (and more info about the synthesizer). As for the synthesizer changing the frequency of the outbound signal and returning it to the receiver, it is possible, although the way the Genesis manual is written, it doesn't appear that ...

Re: self-testing devices

Oh wait a minute... TC with this little thing you might've opened the door to stand speeding ticket prosecution here on its head:

Nowhere in the manual does the manufacturer state that this self test proves the device is working properly. Read the manual carefully. You will notice they go to great lengths to AVOID making this claim.

:shock ...

Re: Electronic Device Legislation

In that context: Zilch. The problem is that if the legislation was worded "unless stopped" people would, upon receiving a text message or cellphone call, simply stop in the middle of the road to answer it or reply to it. If they worded it "unless stopped at a red light," then it would get even more complicated, because people would just continue ...

Re: Electronic Device Legislation

Besides what does this law even do???

It might make some of those boneheads hang up and drive. Common sense cannot be legislated, but because enough people out there lack common sense, the law needed to be passed.

Why not ban eating and driving while your at it to?

Eating and driving has not been shown to be as dangerous as driving ...

Re: Radar / Lidar - Accuracy In Rain&Snow

In precipitation, radar signals are subject to signal attenuation - the simplest definition meaning it loses its range. Radar works by sending out a radio signal from the antenna. When it strikes an object, the portion of the signal that hits the object is reflected back to the antenna. Since the radar signal travels at a fixed speed (speed of ...

Re: failure to obey lane sign - Fine $110

Request disclosure as soon as possible. It can take 6-8 weeks in Toronto for a disclosure package to be put together. One of the objectives with disclosure is actually not to get it (or part of it, as neo333 was saying), because that opens the door for you to file an application for a stay. Don't specifically ask for the by-law, just an ...

Re: City cop stopped me on Federal Highway

If a police officer in Ontario, no matter which agency employs him or her, sees an offence anywhere in Ontario, the officer has full authority to issue a ticket, make an arrest, etc. An Ottawa Police officer could issue a ticket in Sudbury, a North Bay officer a ticket in Windsor, etc. York Regional Police regularly make traffic stops on the 404 ...

Re: Cop suspended with Pay, HTA 172

He allegedly falsified evidence on three traffic stops, two of which resulted in people having their cars seized and the victims had to pay likely thousands of dollars that they'll never see again?! If true, he should at least lose his job if not spend some time in the Don Jail!!

Re: ticket issued in other jurisdiction than the offence

A cop hiding in a bus shelter (no cruiser) on Keele, south of Steeles, jumped out pulled me over and gave me a ticket for failing to obey lane sign.

What section did he specifically charge you under?

A police officer in Ontario can enforce laws province-wide, as Squishy and hwybear said. However, there are other ways of fighting this ...

Have you ever tried Flax Seeds?

Have not... but I will look into them!

No way could I ever chase anyone down or last more than ten minutes in a fight.

Another really good cardio exercise: Run up and down ski hills during the summer. I used to do that. These days if I really want to test my fitness I go running in Caledon at Forks of ...

Re: Law on Speeding and Radar Textbook

Hmm... thought Toronto had it for sign out. Guess I was wrong.

Anyway, the main things you want from the book are things like the case law and procedural notes. I don't see why a photocopy of the critical parts of the book, with their pages and the bibliography of it, wouldn't suffice. If it was really necessary... you could get a Commissioner of ...

Damn Squishy, your diet was worse than mine a couple of years ago!

The "big" small change that I made was adding blueberries to my diet. Seriously. In addition to being loaded with antioxidants, they also change the way your body stores glucose (helps shed fat) and some studies have shown that a diet with a healthy dose of blueberries ...

I think both the Toronto Public Library and the U of T library (also referred to as "Fort Book") have what you're looking for. If not... I'd be willing to bet that the libraries and a few bookstores in Brampton would have it, along with lots of other books on speeding.

EDIT: I recall seeing one of them at the Eglinton branch of the Toronto ...

Re: self-testing devices

I'll try to answer this to the best of my ability. (This will be a long read.) Some things for court:

Is the officer in question an expert? We won't know until the day of trial. An "expert" only needs to know more than a "trier of fact." Hwybear, for example, would be considered an "expert." If the officer is not an expert, did he comply with the ...
