Re: Following too close alternate charge?

I thought insurers only differentiated between the "major" and "minor" convictions.

Yes, for the most part. Some of them only count "moving" violations (unsafe vehicle/defective brakes wouldn't be one of them), though, and a few others (such as mine) have certain "minor" offences that, if you only have one or two of them, it results in no ...

Re: Following too close alternate charge?

Yeah and I think our members are more familiar with the HTA than the people who wrote it.

"And make sure you pay attention to the posts by that R.I. guy, he's sneaky".

 That would be funny... or I could wake up and see 10 cruisers parked outside waiting for me to get into my car. "So you think you know the HTA, eh?" Then ...

Re: 117 in a 90

That should instead say: "speeding x km/hr in an y km/hr-zone, where x < y"

Ah yes. :D

Okay I thought something seemed wrong with that being a fatal error anyway. It was on HWY 11, and the officer listed Severn Township, Simcoe County.

There are a couple of ways of going about this. Speeding tickets usually do not have too many tricks or ...

Avenue Road @ St. Clements, Toronto

50 km/h speed limit, 40 km/h speed limit during school hours, days, marked or unmarked unit, LIDAR. Busy street, school crossing guards frequently ignored/honked at, speeding and excessive idiotic lane changes common in this area. Police enforcement is pervasive during the school year.

Avenue Road @ Otter Crescent, Toronto

Speed limit 50 km/h, weekdays, 1 marked unit, LIDAR. Officer stands on a concrete island on the southbound side of the road in front of an apartment building with a curved shared in-and-out driveway connecting Avenue Road and Otter.

Re: Bayview Avenue @ Lawrence, Toronto

Added note: Toronto Police are getting sneaky in this area. Enforcement is now on both north and southbound lanes. Just north of the bridge, police officer hides behind a row of trees using LIDAR to track northbound vehicles. Marked scout car is parked behind the trees. Very difficult to spot.

Re: Speeding 139 - June10 Court Date

FWIW - not trying to answer for Bear here - I've seen OPP using LIDAR while stationary and parked either sideways or parallel to the road. Michigan State Police park behind pillars or on the top of on-ramps, crack the door or open the window and turn around so that they are tracking approaching traffic with LIDAR but the vehicle is pointed down the ...

Re: 117 in a 90

The "speeding x km/h in an x km/h zone" would refer to an error by the officer in writing the ticket, as in: "Speeding 60 km/h in a 86 km/h zone." Well, an 86 km/h zone means that you can drive up to 86 km/h before you're speeding, and if the person was doing 60, then they're not breaking the law. In my example, the officer would've meant to have ...

Re: Motorcycle Groups and Right of Way

On a semi-related note, yesterday evening I was northbound on the DVP approaching the 401. I was going 110, heading for the ramp to the westbound 401. A couple of squids tore past me and several other cars going about 150 km/h, cut across the bullnose between the ramps to the eastbound and westbound 401 (missed the crash barrier by 10 feet or so ...

Re: And another reason to strike down S.172

Yes, what I'm saying is imagine how Julian Fantino would feel if his officers were subjected to an immediate, irrevocable punishment without any proof by another agency, so I picked the SIU. So imagine if they got called to a collision scene under that context: Well, I haven't done an investigation, there's nothing proven yet - so I'll issue an ...

Re: Insurance Card Offence - warned for speed

If you fight the insurance card ticket, there is a possibility that the Crown, upon discovering that you were stopped initially for speeding, could file a motion to also charge you with speeding. In this case I'd recommend just paying the $65 ticket. As for insurance implications, there are only a select one or two companies that would care; the ...

Re: Following too close alternate charge?

Well the defective brakes ticket doesn't carry demerit points unlike the follow too close.

Correct. Many insurance companies frown far more on the "follow too close" than defective brakes, particularly with no collision. Your insurer might just ignore it all together.

If I can manage to bargain down to a bylaw infraction of a similar fine ...
