Re: Proposed Graduated License Changes
A big thumbs up to the simulator approach suggested by Bookm and Radar Identified. Beats me why, since simulators work well for learning to handle complex tasks from flying airplanes to navigating at sea to operating industrial cranes to driving transport trucks (in Europe), they are not a required component of learning to drive a car in Ontario ...

You got me. I should have added "in fine weather conditions, with no tailgating," or something to that effect.hwybear wrote: A. Well they all did it, it was the right thing to do!

Re: Only 3 points for running the red?
I'll vote for upping it to six, because this really is dangerous behaviour. Way worse than, say, "speeding" at 130k with the flow of traffic on a 400-series highway (though I don't know, offhand, how many points that's worth).
I vote with trepidation, though, because I wouldn't trust the current folks at Queen's Park to get it right if they were ...

Y'know, maybe there is something good about the American idea of electing judges. She'd get my vote.

The scope is offset from where the laser pulse is emitted. How is it aligned for different distances ?
I'm no great fan of having laser beams pointed at me while I'm driving, but I don't think parallax is an issue. The laser beam is not significantly affected by gravity and has no wind resistance, so the "error" between the sightline of the scope ...

Yup, DVP = Toronto Police. (Does in fact sound more like something they would do, rather than the OPP.) My apologies.hwybear wrote:Ah ha...see above was on the DVP...not OPP area.....quit pickin' on the "odots"!Proper1 wrote: Sounds like an OPP feeding frenzy that got out of control.

Re: Failure to submit permit? What's required in car re: permit?
"Kind of crazy" is admirably understated, picus. Sounds like an OPP feeding frenzy that got out of control. It would be amusing if it weren't for the nasty penalties involved -- said penalties including, of course, not only the fines and the "victim surcharges" but also the possible insurance implications, the hassle of dealing with the whole mess ...

The Globe and Mail and Toronto Star (among others) both carried the story on November 10, as did CBC news. It went out on the CP wire in both languages at 1:01 p.m. Eastern that day.lawmen wrote:How come we don't hear about cases like this in the main stream media?

...since impaired operation of a motor vehicle isn't restricted to highways, could an operator of a radio controlled car, boat or helicopter who causes an accident, and possibility an injury to another person, be charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle?
I'd think such a charge would be possible. The criminal code is careful to talk ...

I used to be in favor of banning cell phones while driving but I just don't trust this government to write fair and balanced legislation. It seems to me the same thing occurred just recently A-bloody-men to that!

Good points by HB, TC and racer! I think the roundabout at the west end of Ancaster, where Wilson meets Meadowbrook, is a classic example of a roundabout that would be a lot better if it were bigger. Drivers would likely (we can hope) be better at using them if they were more common.

Re: Speeding
The posted speed limit is the legal limit, is the legal limit, no? We're welcome to venture into outlaw-land above the limit, and I imagine all of us do, but that is at our own risk. And passing a marked cruiser who's traveling at the limit ... give your head a shake! It's like in the game of rugby (not football, rugby) where there is a principle ...
