Re: Lazy Generation?
I notice a difference in my generation. An early 70s child, and growing up in the 80s we did have Atari and Coleco Vision, but my brother who is a few years younger than me is much more involved in "gaming". So are his friends. While most of my former classmates are on Facebook now, I haven't been on since Nov '09. You wanna catch up? Let's go for ...

Re: Court of Appeal sets things right on traffic offences
Hey guys, sorry this si going to be long, but I was interested in this and brought it up in discussion in class on Wednesday afternoon. We ended up having a 1/2 hour discussion on it as it conveniently coincided with our lecture on building cases building arguments - from technicality to Charter motions. Although not likely to happen unless the ...

Re: Exceeding Speed Limit to Pass - isn't it allowed?
The first two reasons I can think of is that driving too slow can be just as dangerous as driving too fast, particularly when one is driving significantly under the speed limit on a 400 series highway. I think the danger is in the variable speeds on the road. If you are doing 10 under in the left lane, for instance, not only are you endangering ...

Re: Court of Appeal sets things right on traffic offences
Hey, you might want to check out Section 10 of the charter concerning phone calls, outlining the right to seek counsel without delay , and for many, it includes calling loved ones to call a lawyer, as we may not know of one ourselves. Not many of us have criminal lawyers on speeddial.

Re: Court of Appeal sets things right on traffic offences
This story is what was told to me by her mother. There are a couple of possibilities, such as the daughter not being entirely forthcoming. However, they have already seen the lawyer and the facts have been laid out. My relationship with this young lady's mother is extremely candid. I don't believe the facts were misrepresented to me by her.

I guess that's why her lawyer told her that her case looks good. All of her friends will be testifying on her behalf, and it will be proven that she did not have the keys in her possession. I wonder if it will make it past any preliminary knowing she did not have the keys.

Re: Court of Appeal sets things right on traffic offences
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but it touches on an issue a friend's 19 year old daughter is experiencing. She is a decent young girl who, like most 19 year olds, is in her partying stage. She's a good student, studying to be a teacher, and is an active and frequent volunteer on a level that you just don't see many 19 year olds participating ...

Re: Using Centre Lane Improperly
Well, I pleaded to a by-law yesterday for the City of Hamilton. No decision could be reached prior to trial whether or not I was even charged under the right Section. One prosecutor was adamant that I was, and another said no, I wasn't. So, rather than risk it, my paralegal said a plea down to a by-law would be acceptable to us, and they accepted ...

Re: Scary Situation
I'm glad to hear your guardians were perched on your shoulder and you're here to tell us about it. Sometimes when someone has made up their mind on suicide, they are at peace with the world knowing they're leaving it. It's a warning sign, but you couldn't have known that because you didn't know the young man. It doesn't sound like he was an angry ...

It's too bad the left lane bandit didn't get ticketed as well.

English major/minor?
To the rest of us the "pros" are hockey players.
Actually, minor, and sometimes it sneaks in without me realizing it.
My hubby is the former pro hockey player! It was quite the scandal when it was discovered that I didn't know what icing was. I must say, he's got quite the talent for trash talking on the bench. Nobody ...

Re: We're not unfairly complaining about congestion
Ironically, I've been thinking about what I previously said about being opposed to umarked cruisers. I think I was wrong. My previous perspective was that it appeared to be that the umarked cruisers were there to nab people and nothing more. I failed to see the subconscious warning their presence instilled in people. If drivers were consciously ...

Re: We're not unfairly complaining about congestion
You're not kidding! Yesterday evening driving west on the QEW, I had two cars nearly sideswipe me attempting to bully me into going faster (110km middle lane, and I was keeping pace with the left-lane). Another one played chicken with me so as not to let me merge on the QEW from 427 southbound ramp, and so many more not signalling, lane straddling ...

Re: RED LIGHT CAMERA OFFENCE
There is something so fundamentally wrong with charging $325 when you really don't know who was behind it. I know they don't dock the owner of the vehicle points, but still, if it wasn't the owner, and yet the excuse is used that it is their vehicle therefore they ought to know who was driving it at that certain time, it is still penalizing an ...
