Re: Crown Witness lied, how to discredit
I have been advised to be more diplomatic and state something along the lines of "statements in court not consistent with the documented facts of the case." Cooler heads prevailed

Re: when fighting a ticket, can they do this...?
The higher charge won't affect your record with the insurance company any worse than the reduced charge. If you have under 6 demerits and don't want a conviction on your record, fight it. If you don't mind having a conviction on your record (which your insurance company will use to raise your rates especially if you have another one, even if it's ...

Re: Site issues with Firefox
I kinda gave up on trying newer versions of Opera. I'll probably try 10.x when stable Koala comes out. I'm rockin' 4gb of RAM and some of my work requires every bit of it, so I'm forced to stick with 64bit.

Re: Crown Witness lied, how to discredit
He is still a witness for the Crown. On a good note, I have prepared a good line of questioning for both him and the constable. While I don't want to post too many details in a public forum while the case is still pending, it should amount to reasonable doubt.

I run 64bit Jaunty, so that could be causing it. Actually Opera's even worse. Has a nasty memory leak that uses up like 99-100% of a core, otherwise I would have used it as its UI is perfectly suited for my needs. I'll have to fire up one of the servers that's running Intrepid32 and has FF 3.0.

Re: Insurance coverage - Driving under Suspension
Even if they're not, I'm pretty sure that every motor vehicle insurance policy (even if it's liability-only) has a provision for covering the damages caused by an uninsured/underinsured motorist. A few bucks of every insurance policy should go into that fund.

Crown Witness lied, how to discredit
After reviewing the disclosure package for an upcoming, I noticed that the constable caught the crown witness in a lie. It was a severe understatement about the time period that the witness has been driving without a license. I guess CPIC does have some uses 8)

Re: 2 Toronto Parking tickets in 2 minutes!!!
By the way, I went to court yesterday and the counter clerk told me that he can cancel one of the tickets if I agree to pay the other one or that I should take both to court. I didn't like his attitude or his style of delivery so I gave him a fake polite smile (I picked up some bad habits after spending 15 years in Canada ) and told him ...

Lol, yes I DO live in Etobicoke
That's assuming it ever gets to court. The backlog is giving some mixed signals even with the increased number of courtrooms. If it does, it'll make good practice for when more's at stake.

Re: Site issues with Firefox
Ironically, Firefox works better with facebook than Chrome, but I'm running a development version of Chrome that required a bit of ghettoing to get flash up and running. I think FF 3.0 started crapping out with this forum in June. Since then, I've installed FF 3.5 but it was still non-functional when it comes to participating in this forum.

For starters, thanks Bear.
don't think they would go and try to find the owner on any occassion
She was only away from the car for 15min, so had she seen a ticket on her dash, she would have run up to my door started banging and probably had a few choice words for my buddy

Re: 2 Toronto Parking tickets in 2 minutes!!!
Ooops, Bear, could you rename the thread to make it "parking tickets"? That's what I get from writing while pissed off.. Same infraction, I checked. It's a very quiet residential area, so I sincerely doubt they'll have more than 1 unit workin' it. The meter maid never left a ticket on the windshield. She would have run up to my door and handed it ...

Re: crossing an intersection side by side
I hope so, but I'm pretty sure it's not or even if it is, it could still result in a charge. A bit of a drag on group rides, but that's why we keep our groups capped at 8. I hate seeing 20-50 cruisers going through a stop with the lead or sweep blocking the traffic and then doing 10 below the limits, while their formation is too long to safely pass ...

When using Firefox 3.0 and 3.5 on a 64bit system, this site is almost unusable for me. These days I am forced to use Google Chrome just so I can log on. Is anybody else experiencing these issues?
By the way, I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, fully updated.

My buddy came over for a visit, blocked my driveway and my neighbor had to park on the street (prohibited between 10:00 and 18:00. Bear, the way the test was run suggests that not enough alcohol got metabolized to get into your lungs to blow a more realistic reading, which would make the test highly unrealistic.

Re: Unethical Speeding Ticket
there has always been consequences (ie licence suspension and tow) in the WARN area.
I personally would like to see a $325 ticket and 6 points for this too.
That would be effective prohibition without any logical cause. Scientific studies have determined that 0.10 is a safe range. The limits have been set to 0.08 to include a safety margin for ...

Take the plea and next time around make sure you either pay your fines or dispute your charges in court. A 5km/h over ticket will affect your insurance rates as much as a 42km/h over ticket.

Re: Unethical Speeding Ticket
Bear, our speed limits, laws and enforcement policies seem to be more effective at generating revenue than promoting safer roads.
In other countries, I've seen limits of up to 110km/h on roads that would automatically be limited to 80 here in Ontario. Then there's the 3am school zone speed limit enforcement. In Ontario, I routinely drive/ride 20km ...

This works in a great majority of cases, but don't be too surprised if they try to pass you in your own lane. Happened to me on a couple of occasions over the years, even on the 400 (motorcycle). You should know that not being caged in a big hunk of metal turns your daily commute into a death race.

Don't talk to the constable. Once you are ticketed, they want nothing to do with you until the court date. By the way, if you go to court and say "I wasn't doing 74 in a 50 zone; I was doing 59," you openly admit to violating HTA Sec. 128 and are automatically found guilty.

Most insurance companies will forgive a single minor (*) conviction in a 3 year period. For that reason, I fight each and every ticket I get.
By the way, if your story is true, I'd file an official complaint against the constable. I am just not sure whether it should be done now or after the court date. I hate that sort of lying scum. They are ...

Re: Speed Trap - 79 in 50 zone
If you just want to get it reduced, don't bother with going to court unless it's just to waste the court resources (which I do consider to be a valid reason as it makes revenue generation less profitable). As long as you weren't radared doing 94-100 (depending on the insurance company), a ticket for 79km/h will be treated the same as as a ticket ...
