Re: Turning Right on a Red light 144.18

Hello Ravage, and welcome to the forum.

A question for you - was your vehicle completely stopped at the time when there were no other vehicles between your car and the intersection? In other words, did you just follow the car in front of you without stopping first?

Re: Ottawa city bylaw 2003-530 section 86

Hello kkostadinof, and welcome to the forum.

The Ottawa city bylaw 2005-530 section 86 states:

"Despite any provisions of this by-law, every person shall promptly obey all signals given by a traffic control signal, traffic control device or an authorized or official sign and all directions given by a police officer and nothing in this by-law ...

Beautiful eyes

An extremely polite policemen stops a good-looking woman

Cop: Did anyone tell you that you have wonderful eyes?
Woman: Yes, I've been told that before...
Cop: Then tell me, why don't you use those wonderful eyes to look at the traffic signs?

Getting a ticket on a merge ramp to a highway for exceeding the 30kph to 70kph limit on those ramps. Where exactly do those limits end?

Unless the signs are posted with a white background and black letters they are NOT enforceable. You are probably referring to yellow speed limit signs which are "cautionary" signs with recommend driving ...

Re: Electric Cars in Ontario?

Well, Mr. BookM can make a fortune by providing an aftermarket equipment to make noise similar to a loud tailpipe when the electric cars ARE in fact legal to drive here. But why the hold up with these? How come americans, who do not give a squat about the environment can drive the few available models, and we can't? There is nothing in the ...

Re: Electric Cars in Ontario?

Quieter is safer ;)

Well, according to the logic of "Loud cars saving lives", we should not have a single accident in which a car hits a pedestrian - the pedestrian MUST hear the car coming. Any stats about that hwybear? How many pedestrians are struck by quiet hybrids per year? Also, how many deaf people do we have, or those who crank up their ...

Re: Electric Cars in Ontario?

Bah, you only repair them a little less often. Let the customer decide what they want, and the mechanic guy better start learning electric engines. Make these cars nice and people will want to buy aftermarket stuff - batteries for once. Besides, gas powered engines will not go away so quick anyway, there will be a 15-25 year gradual transmission ...

Electric Cars in Ontario?

According to current regulations, no electric car can be driven in Ontario (and anywhere else in Canada except BC). Do you find it somewhat ridiculous that, despite all the fanfare about the environmentally friendliness talk, and high gas prices moans, we cannot use the most environmentally-friendly cars? Even though we actually make them here in ...

1. It is legal to do so.

2. No, you must have at least one mirror
here's the law concerning your question #2

OHTA
66. (1) Every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall be equipped with,
(a) a device for cleaning rain, snow and other moisture from the windshield so constructed as to be controlled or operated by the driver;

Re: Ticket for going through amber light

Quebec road = Quebec rules. I am not familiar with those, however:
If they stopped your husband, they should have stopped the Quebec driver too. If they did not then you definetly have a case. You can also easily argue that the cop himself is at fault, for he must have ran the red light, which is illegal even for the cop.

Why is the speed limit still at 100km/h on the 400 series highways??. That limit was set when the highway was desigend way before airbags and crumple zones and when the driving tests consisted of driving in the straight line.
I have seen a post by someone, who claims that he was one of the people involved, that 400-series highways were designed ...

Re: Emissions Test

Why not concentrate on bigger vehicles such as buses
Hey - Lay your mind off the buses. One bus can carry 55 (that's what Greyhound and Coach Canada say) people. One car usually carries one person. Even though one bus uses more fuel than a car, when the bus carries 10 people that is already better than each one of them using a car. And they ...

Re: Following too closely charges

I think you can definitely beat this!

There is NO proof you were following too closely. The police was not at the scene when this happened, therefore how are they going to give actual proof to this incident in court? They cant, because they have none! The ticket is based on the speculation and judgment of the police at the scene, but that is not ...

Emissions Test

Does anyone find it ridiculous that any new car, built to meet emissions standards, is required to take the emissions test, even if it is guaranteed to pass for the first 6 or so years? And at the same time, older vehicles (20+ years old) do not have to take the test, even though they are the ones that produce more emissions than new vehicles ...

Re: New law

Why is it that we never hear of police issuing tickets to drivers for driving with bald tires or poor brakes after all those are the things that usually cause accidents. All you hear is that speed was a factor or the word "racing" is mentioned.
The truth is, that speed of a moving vehicle is readily measured by a laser. Neither the boldness of ...

I am pretty sure that speed was only one of the factors. I see this terrible trend on the road, as winter comes people drive even more agressive! I'd say speed coupled with following too closely, inability to handle a car in the winter, inadequate tires!!!, poor brakes, lack of ABS, lack of skill to avoid the crash (you can spin the car around ...

Only point you can argue

The only way to argue such a charge would be a statement that you had to make a right turn immediately after the left turn, in which case you do not have to make a left turn to a left lane. The road on which you had to make a right turn has to be very close to the intersection. If that was not the case however - good luck. Keep us posted on your ...

Perhaps (and I think that it will make more sense for health reasons) we should ban parents from taking their kids to MacDonalds, as the health-benefiting results of such decision will greatly outweigh any second-hand smoke risks they suffer in the car. On the other hand, If I am a smoker and I am travelling on a highway with my kids, the only ...
