Re: Careless driving charge (stopped at a yellow)
It seems bizare to me that he got charged for this. I thought you have to be in control of your car at all times. If a guy in front of you slams on his breaks and comes to a complete stop you should be at a safe enough distance to do the same and not be in a collision with him. So the OP sees a yellow light, and stops and its his fault he gets ...

Re: right turn at red light in Montreal
I used to frequent montreal and I know there is a huge sign on Autoroute 40 when entering montreal that basicly says "no right turns on red". As I understood it is illegal anywhere on the island of Montreal. Outside of that such as in Longueuil or brossard (south shore) you can do it but many intersections happen to have a no right on red sign ...

Plate stickers
Hi all!
I have a question about plate stickers. For whatever reason lately while at redlights I have been checking out the plate stickers of the vehicles in front of me. There are actualy quite a few outdated ones. Worst so far was November 09. Anyways yesterday I saw a silver sunfire that had a funny sticker in place of a validation sticker. It ...

Maybe because when making a Left turn to a road/highway where there are two or more lanes in your direction you must end up in the left lane.

Re: Paying a fine on Social Assistance
Wait a minute.....you have $5000 in fines? How did this happen?
If they are moving violations I would guess you can't afford insurance as thats like 12 $400 speeding tickets. Let alone your licence would be suspended due to having too many dermit points.
So it makes more sence that you managed to get Parking fees or other non-moving violations ...

Re: passing on the shoulder
This is one of my pet peeves. Both cyclists and cars should share the road with each other . Where I live I see lots of cyclists passing between me and the curb. I once had a cyclist hit my car because he tried to squeese pass me at a high rate of speed as I was slowing down to turn right (YES I had my signal on). Now when I need to turn right I ...

Re: clocked wille passing
I know this road very well (and was on it all last weekend too) I believe "the passing zone is comming to an end" meant the he was aproaching a hill, or curve and the dotted line was going to be a solid line. There is no third lane for passing on the 138 between cornwall and the 417.

They were going to search my bag anyways since they did that with our friends who ended up coming down (they tried to turn around when they saw cops around my van). Since they had asked if I had anything, I told them the truth because at that point I knew X was an a-hole and didnt want to aggravate the situation by lying. Even by being honest and ...

Matching speeds and merging is easy. Trying to merge when you're well below the speed of the traffic is dangerous. I don't know why it isn't obvious to some people that the on-ramps are long for a reason...

I find that many drivers lack the skills to merge safely. However most of the drivers on the roadway are polite enough to brake, speed up, or move over to give the space needed to drivers merging onto a roadway. Why do people think that just because their signal is on the rest of us must get out of their way and allow them to merge? That is not the ...

The police may be freindly, as should you, but the police are not your freind. You have incriminated yourself by admitting to have weed. Whatever you did earlier in the evening that may not be legal, It is up to the officer to figure that out. Never admit anything, make him figure it out on his own. If they want to search tell them to get a warrent ...

Re: Swerved to avoid animal then charged with Careless driving
In most cases swerving to avoid an animal is not the best idea.
If you stay in your lane and hit the animal you can put damages through insurance as a comprehensive claim and no wories about deductable and is also not an at fault accident.
If you swerve you better hope you can miss it and not lose control of your car. If you do swerve and hit a ...

Re: who is right in this situation?
Just to clarify... was there traffic comming in the right lane, left lane, or both? If there was traffic only on the left lane but the right lane was clear I would be honking too. Otherwise any traffic aproaching in the right lane will clober you, and you would be at fault.

Not that I know about, but this has been a pet peeve of mine. HTA says they have to be on 1/2 hour before sunset and 1/2 hour after sunrise.
So Its one thing when its a light drizzle, but if it is raining... even mid day... it can be a bad combo of being dark and rain + spray from cars to severly reduce visibility. People should have their lights ...

Someone Brake checks it is fairly obvious.
Ok sometimes it is. Witnesses may have seen hand gestures, honking horn other dangerous maniuvers ect. But in a situation where no back and forth gestures can be proven I think not.

Unlike if your on the road and a police officer instructs you to pull over, you have extra certain rights inside your own home. If a police officer knocks on your door to ask you some questions it would be in your best interest to be helpful. But what you discribe sounds to me like harasment. Visit a dealership and get the proper mounting for the front plate.
you can still file for trial and disclosure, you may get lucky that way. Or go to court to plead for a lesser charge.
It would help your case though if you get the problem fixed first.
