The ticket may impact your insurance, but you'll have to contact your provider to see if so and by how much.

Re: Pedestrian Fail to use Crosswalk aka jaywalking
I remember reading about it in the local newspapers at the time. The police were running a pedestrian safety blitz, with basically zero tolerance for pedestrians and motorists who werent obeying the law regarding crossings. Heres a link to police services media release: http://www.wrps.on.ca/news/police-conduct-pedestrian-safety-initiative-during ...

Re: Possible Fail to Remain?
As the accident occurred on private property, the applicable charge would be "Fail to report accident" contrary to section 199 of the Highway Traffic Act. Thats only if the total damage (i.e. your vehicle and the vacuum, etc.) exceeds $1,000. As you said, probably would have been best to deal with the matter at the time, but whats done is done ...

In Ontario, the Crown can offer a plea deal to the same offence but with a reduced fine. It's quite possible it would be the same for Quebec matters, where they negotiate a reduced fine in exchange for a guilty plea.

Re: 111 in an 80, pitch black dark night. Already reduced.
Youll have to start by requesting disclosure and seeing what the officers actual evidence is, namely how they measured your speed and where they did it from. Without knowing when/where they obtained your speed, its pretty hard to know what your chances are in Court. For all you know they could have been travelling in the opposite direction and ...

My understanding is that X-Copper and similar firms do have lawyers on staff or at least act as referral agents to attorneys who can properly represent you.
Id certainly make sure though that its a criminal lawyer who reviewed your file.

Normally you'd be charged with driving under suspension and careless driving. On a first offence you'd be looking at just over $1,300 in fines and an additional 6 month licence suspension.

Nice win for you!
That part bugs me. The Crown certainly can withdraw a charge if they feel it's unwarranted or the evidence doesn't support it. Not sure if they were just trying to placate you or what, but glad it worked out in the end.MegaSilver wrote:He agreed that careless wasn't a warranted charge, but could not dismiss the charge.

Search through the forums a bit, both questions you're asking are pretty common ones. The lack of time isn't necessarily a fatal error, but read through the threads dealing with such errors. You can represent your wife, she just needs to authorize you in writing.

Re: 31 km/h over in 80 km zone
The problem is that not everyone simply accepts a reduction and pleads guilty. Many people still try to fight the ticket or seek a further reduction, so theres not always much incentive for the police to offer reductions. And while lowering speeding tickets is pretty common, at the end of the day the officer charged you for the actual offence you ...

I dont see anything wrong with your plan, but Im not familiar with licence requirements for other Provinces. I would hope that if your legal representative is directing you to take this action, it should be legal and fine.

Would GPS units be a better measurement of your speed, than your cars speedometer?
I dont know if it would necessarily be better, but it might help clarify how accurate your speedometer is. As Reflections said, GPS signals can be problematic. Id suggest finding a nice flat stretch of highway on a clear day. Lock in your vehicles speed with the ...

Police have no discretion over the fine amount. There is a set fine for every offence which is determined by the Courts. You can find the list for HTA offences here: http://www.ontariocourts.ca/ocj/how-do- ... hedule-43/

Yes, you'll want to select option 3 and request a trial (even if you don't carry through with the trial). You're correct in that the Courts could never cope with every person going to trial, but that's why they offer deals, most people accept a plea. You may luck out and land in 11B territory, but it's far from certain.

- What is option 2 on your ticket? It varies from one jurisdiction to the next.
- An admission doesn't necessarily take a plea deal off the table. It can be problematic (if admissible) at trial.
