Re: Broken head light cover
They might let it go if you have a clear cover, but the optics may be messed up if you have a cover that doubles as the lens to direct light.
Then again, I see too many cars with one headlight pointed into oblivion (i.e., my eyes!), so it may not be a big deal.

Can you give us the context? It reads like it should be part of a bigger sentence meaning "Allow novice driver to..."

Are Jake brakes connected to the stop lamps? I've never really paid attention to that detail.

Re: Top 10 driver pet peeves (Toronto Police survey)
Ooo, tricky. The Escape slows at roughly the same rate when I gear down (turn off O/D) as the Lancer does simply by going completely off the gas, though I would say that neither qualify as "sudden".
Manual transmission cars can engine brake much more effectively, so I guess that should be avoided in traffic. Saves gas in the newer cars though. :D ...

OH I never even checked my new licence. I was going by the old May 26th expiry from my G1/G2, looks like Off_Camber is correct.

You may have the GPS screen visible to you if you are not holding it (e.g., mounted somewhere). If possible, don't mount it on your windshield - it's rare, but you could get a "windshield obstructed" ticket.

My licence doesn't expire on my birthday, I think that is just for the plate stickers. Mine appears to expire on the day I was issued my G1.

Westmount is a tricky road. It's wide and has shoulders, looks like a 70 km/h road, but the limit is only 50 km/h.

Makes sense to me, although I do remember reading that they were told to stop doing that. Being stopped in traffic opens them up to an attack.

Re: Legal requirement to report accident to Insurer?
A hit-and-run accident with no suspect counts as a claim against your comprehensive coverage and will affect your rates. Any claim where you are ruled 0% at-fault will go under DCPD coverage and does not affect your rate. In RI's case, insurance would have covered under DCPD if he had witnessed the collision, taken down the plate, and filed a ...

Re: Top 10 driver pet peeves (Toronto Police survey)
I gear down to slow on an incline or when I just want to adjust my speed (e.g., passed a car at 100 km/h and want to slow down to 80 km/h before Bear pops out of the woods). You really can't tell when a car slows down without brake lights? Or are you referring to drivers gearing all the way down to stop for a turn/stoplight? Never seen that before ...

Re: Rules to over take street car?
The HTA states that you must stop two metres behind the doors of a streetcar which is "stationary for the purpose of taking on or discharging passengers". An open door is a good indication of that, but I would also argue that a streetcar stopped in front of a TTC streetcar sign is also a good indication that passengers are being let on and let off ...

Re: Rules to over take street car?
The question is whether it would be reasonable to assume from the position of the streetcar that it was stopping to pick up or let off passengers, instead of simply waiting for a red light. Most streetcar stops seem to be 1-2 car lengths from the stop line instead of 4-5. It sounds like this streetcar was stopped away from the TTC sign and wanted ...
