I had purchased insurance with the car rental which should make proving that I had insurance pretty easy. I believe I was more concerned with whether the JoP would be more interested in whether or not I actually handed him the piece of paper to prove that I was insured.
Oh, okay... I mis-read your original post, sorry. Thought the cop got you ...

Re: Speed Trapped
If the officer was looking for a "lower speed sign" on the ramp, meaning one with black lettering on a yellow background, that is NOT enforceable as a speed limit, it is an advisory speed only. If he ticketed you for exceeding that speed, the charge would be thrown out. Street racing charges?! Good God!! Another reason to get this law struck down ...

Re: Disobey Sign - No Trucks 7pm - 7am
Police escort?! I'm assuming that the "No trucks 7AM to 7PM" has the intent behind it of "noise abatement," aka keeping it quiet for residents. I wonder what good the cop thought a police escort would do? And threatening to write a ticket for every sign you passed???

Re: Canada's worst driver
This group of CWD contestants seems worse than any of the others. I mean, drinking while driving and intentionally running red lights and STOP signs; racing another contestant on the way to the filming site, not to mention ON CAMERA; the "Wobble"; being unable to change lanes; looking everywhere but the road; driving into the oncoming traffic lane ...

Hello everyone! This is a great site. I've been really impressed with all of the information here. Keep up the good work! :D
I've got a keen interest in traffic law and road safety. That's partly because I'm in the process of slowly writing a book about driving (talking about local driving habits, weird incidents, traffic laws, driving smarter ...

Re: Speeding
Just a couple of thoughts, as far as speed tolerance. Here in Toronto, up until very recently, OPP wouldn't stop you unless you were going over 130, sometimes considerably faster. The ones who patrol the 416 start pulling drivers over at 125 km/h.
Toronto Police, unless it was Traffic Services, usually gave drivers 25-30 over. Traffic Services ...

Snow tires?
This isn't entirely HTA related, but here's a little background. For the winter, I'm thinking of buying snow tires for my fiancee (wife as of Saturday) and for my car (2007 Honda Civic). She has a 2007 Saturn Ion. Currently we only have all-season radials. Any recommendations or experiences with different brands or types?

Re: Interesting reading HTA 172
That was an interesting read.
Hopefully soon the street racing law will be found insonsistent with s 11(d) of the Charter (not s. 7). Until it is struck down, it is still in effect.
That sums it up nicely. The impoundment and other actions may be unconstitutional, but the the courts will decide that, and decide if Ontario must pay restitution ...

Re: Disobey Sign 182(2)
Thank god I don't work the GTR area.....the mentality of a lot of drivers is just whacked.
This could get a long thread going, speaking of GTA drivers...
-- the left lane is for PASSING, not for driving under the speed limit with 500 cars stacked up behind you
-- the shoulder is not a lane
-- the sidewalk is ALSO not a lane
-- don't ...

Re: car-bicycle accident- fail to remain...
Something about the insurance company's response does not add up. Insurance companies are supposed to assess fault and payouts based on the Insurance Act of Ontario, not the Highway Traffic Act. The fact that the driver says that his insurance company is using a "fail to remain" charge as the basis for determining that your son (or you) has to pay ...
