Re: charged with speeding 15 kl over in process of passing
Just to clarify something... Whether it's 15 over, 25 over, 45 over or 5 over, it will be treated the same by the insurance industry. Unless you're a professional driver and need 0 points on your abstract to keep your job, your ticket isn't any less worth fighting. My insurance rates went up 20% because of a 10 over ticket and a 5 over ticket in a ...

Re: charged with speeding 15 kl over in process of passing
You didn't do anything wrong but you still broke the (stupid) law and got nailed for it. I'd take it to court and try to get off on a technicality, such as 11b or lack of disclosure. Check out this site http://www.ticketcombat.com/ as it will give you a great primer on the process and your options. Good luck!

Re: What are my rights when being pulled over?
Technically, you're only required to identify yourself. With that being said, if you take that route, you fail the attitude test and he can go over you with a fine-toothed comb.
As soon as you opened up the glove compartment, the smokes were in plain sight and that gives the constable probable cause to search your vehicle (the way I understand the ...

Re: Scanners
IIRC there were ways to convert even regular radios to scan the police frequencies. If they're encoded, that's a different story. You'd probably need a computer too.

I still don't get it why the passenger hasn't told the driver to pull over and why he hasn't immediately surrendered to the cops. The driver was just a drunken idiot. I guess you are who you're with.

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
No arguments from me on that count. I personally subscribe to the European school of driving. No matter how fast I'm going in the left lane, if I see someone moving up from behind, I get out of the way. I'd do that even if I were breaking the speed record for section 172. And Bear, while this post mentions speed, the main focus of it is courtesy :8

Re: More weird driving
I'm paying about a g-note a pop for the car (4-door import sedan, with whopping 75hp, 1mil liability) and for the bike (older 600cc supersport). On a good note, next renewal, I'll be over 30 and married

Welcome aboard. I don't know the intersection well, but if the constable is confused about the signage, you should take a few pictures.

Re: More weird driving
The scary part is that she probably pays less for insurance than I do (25+ but under 30, clean record). As for Brampton, it is a bit crazy but highway 10 in general is brutal all the way down to the lake and Markham/Richmond Hill area is still a bit worse. I need to have a coin dispenser loaded with pennies mounted on my bike for that area
