Re: Offences/driving in Michigan
From what I heard quite a few states have reciprocity agreements with Ontario. The question is whether they report the offences. I've heard mixed reports, especially about NY.

Re: West bound turn on Gardiner Ramp
The way I see it is that you are charged based on the circumstances on the offense date. On one occasion, I got nailed for speeding in an area where they (are you sitting down?) raised
the speed limit b/w the offense date and the trial date so I looked into it

Re: police officers have been told to issue more traffic tickets
In Winnipeg I'd be more concerned about getting shanked by a dealer/beggar/pimp than by getting run over by a soccer mom. Depends on the city.

On that tangent, what will happen to the law when self-driven vehicles based on dGPS technology come out?

Re: Motorcycle Groups and Right of Way
Squid is a general term that boils down to "irresponsible rider," whether it's due to a lack of proper protective gear or dangerous vehicle operation.
AFIK, lane-splitting isn't allowed in Ontario. It's pretty common here in Chile, but I'm just not sure that your average Ontario car driver would have the proper level of due care and attention to ...

Re: Cop suspended with Pay, HTA 172
While that measure would resolve the corruption issues (like possible kickbacks from towing contractors), it would still leave error (misjudged the situation and/or the law) and personal (failed the attitude test) issues open. While the official doctrine of "privilege, not a right" may look good on paper, the bottom line is that an error or a ...

Re: Cop suspended with Pay, HTA 172
Bear, I'd just like to hear your perspective on 172 based on this outcome (that many people along with myself predicted), since you seemed to be for this law based on your faith in your colleagues' integrity, ability to observe the incident and interpret the law... It only takes a small number of corrupt cops to ruin it for everyone. This guy ...

Re: Motorcycle Groups and Right of Way
We usually just give it but that's because it's dangerous to try to re-form a group once there are a couple of cars splitting it. It's not like we have cell phones to coordinate things. With that being said, we keep our groups small (smaller than 8, usually in the 4-6 range) and we don't hold anybody up. The only exceptions are larger group rides ...

Re: Disobey Sign U Turn Section 182(2)
Your best bet is to go through the process and see what technicalities are out there. That could include 11b, lack of disclosure, the cop not showing up etc etc etc. Check out the Ticket Combat site as it has a great primer.

Re: Halton "TAXI"
Bear, out of curiosity, do you also nail those moving road blocks in the passing lane? In most cases they are speeding, but are still holding up traffic and encouraging others to drive aggressively just to get around'em. As a motorist, all I can do is a honk and a gesture to move over as I (safely) pass them from a driving lane. However, if people ...

Yeah.. Only one official complaint... The civil disobedience campaign was a sign of approval
On a good note, the citizens of Halton region can sleep easier these days. I've always said that marked cruisers do a heck of a lot more to improve highway safety than ninja tactics.
