Re: crossing an intersection side by side
I hope so, but I'm pretty sure it's not or even if it is, it could still result in a charge. A bit of a drag on group rides, but that's why we keep our groups capped at 8. I hate seeing 20-50 cruisers going through a stop with the lead or sweep blocking the traffic and then doing 10 below the limits, while their formation is too long to safely pass ...

Site issues with Firefox
When using Firefox 3.0 and 3.5 on a 64bit system, this site is almost unusable for me. These days I am forced to use Google Chrome just so I can log on. Is anybody else experiencing these issues?
By the way, I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, fully updated.

2 Toronto Parking tickets in 2 minutes!!!
My buddy came over for a visit, blocked my driveway and my neighbor had to park on the street (prohibited between 10:00 and 18:00. Recently she received 2 notices of impending conviction for the same offense (the infraction numbers differ by 1), one with a 13:29 time stamp and the other with 13:31 time stamp. Now, the neighbor never received any ...

Re: Unethical Speeding Ticket
Bear, the way the test was run suggests that not enough alcohol got metabolized to get into your lungs to blow a more realistic reading, which would make the test highly unrealistic.

Re: Unethical Speeding Ticket
I did some reading on this topic because, believe it or not, I am seriously opposed to drunk driving. My figures weren't pulled out of my behind. They came from Alcohol and Caffeine - A Study of Their Psychological Effects By Harvey Nash which presented study results that indicated that a statistically significant impairment only came at 100mg ...

Re: Unethical Speeding Ticket
there has always been consequences (ie licence suspension and tow) in the WARN area.
I personally would like to see a $325 ticket and 6 points for this too.
That would be effective prohibition without any logical cause. Scientific studies have determined that 0.10 is a safe range. The limits have been set to 0.08 to include a safety margin for ...

The video and the story tell all, but I found one thing interesting.. It looks like they are allowed to report the names of underage victims in the media, south of the border.

Re: Plea for lesser charge from Driving While Under Suspension
Take the plea and next time around make sure you either pay your fines or dispute your charges in court. A 5km/h over ticket will affect your insurance rates as much as a 42km/h over ticket.

Re: Unethical Speeding Ticket
At the end of the day, hills, curves or whatever, still can not say the driver does not have their own fate in their control
Hills and curves are the areas where the speed limits either drop or warning signs get posted (like on HWY ramps)
show me the law that says one can not drive in the left lane when they are at the speed limit and ...

Re: Unethical Speeding Ticket
Bear, our speed limits, laws and enforcement policies seem to be more effective at generating revenue than promoting safer roads.
In other countries, I've seen limits of up to 110km/h on roads that would automatically be limited to 80 here in Ontario. Then there's the 3am school zone speed limit enforcement. In Ontario, I routinely drive/ride 20km ...

Re: Left turns and cyclists
This works in a great majority of cases, but don't be too surprised if they try to pass you in your own lane. Happened to me on a couple of occasions over the years, even on the 400 (motorcycle). You should know that not being caged in a big hunk of metal turns your daily commute into a death race.

Re: Is it worth contacting ticket officer?
Don't talk to the constable. Once you are ticketed, they want nothing to do with you until the court date. By the way, if you go to court and say "I wasn't doing 74 in a 50 zone; I was doing 59," you openly admit to violating HTA Sec. 128 and are automatically found guilty.

Re: Unethical Speeding Ticket
Most insurance companies will forgive a single minor (*) conviction in a 3 year period. For that reason, I fight each and every ticket I get.
By the way, if your story is true, I'd file an official complaint against the constable. I am just not sure whether it should be done now or after the court date. I hate that sort of lying scum. They are ...

Re: Speed Trap - 79 in 50 zone
If you just want to get it reduced, don't bother with going to court unless it's just to waste the court resources (which I do consider to be a valid reason as it makes revenue generation less profitable). As long as you weren't radared doing 94-100 (depending on the insurance company), a ticket for 79km/h will be treated the same as as a ticket ...
