Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h

Ok, so we all know it's more dangerous to drive fast. But the mere fact that we know this makes us more alert and conscious of the conditions around us. This makes us safer drivers.

Isn't his call a paradox or something? LOL :?

Re: Red Light Camera!

Several years ago, I responded to a letter in the paper from a guy who insisted Stratford invest heavily in red-light cameras. The fact that the governments own study concluded that this system CAUSED more carnage than it prevented, is proof that municipalities that use it are strictly in for the cash! The link to the study still works if anyone is ...

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h

An Infiniti G35 is a very high caliber car. If this speed was recorder on the Autobahn (in this car) no one would even blink an eye. I'll bet the road was clear and he just needed to top the girl out for a brief second or two. Poor sap had bad luck and got lazered just then. Very bad luck.

I remember topping my old '69 Ranchero out at 193kph on ...

1) Shop around for a new Insurance company. Most will forgive one minor traffic violation every 3 years.
2) Make the charge "minor". Discuss your dilema with the prosecutor at the court address on the back of your ticket. See if he would be willing to change the charge to "Disobey Sign" so that your insurance will be affected as little as possible ...

Re: High-speed crash on Allen - your opinions, news.

Of course Speed was a factor. But the simplistic way it is reported by the police leaves folks nodding and mumbling under their breath, "Darn speeders". And then it will get added to the police statistics as a speed-related wreck which will then result in heavier fines and crazy new legislation.

My scenarios above are only two of thousands of ...

Re: High-speed crash on Allen - your opinions, news.

Here's what I think happened:
The Volvo was pegged to the speed limit (as all Volvo's are). A grumpy old redneck was about to go by him in the other lane, when, because the Volvo guy was very tired, he wandered over into the other guys lane just a bit. This infuriated the pickup driver and he decide to ride just inches off his bumper to teach him ...

Oh.. you mean bent from hitting curb? Would require evidence to that effect. Get Disclosure.

Re: residential zone crash, careless?

Blown tire(s). Case dismissed.

The Crown will never be able to prove (conclusively) that the tires blew as a result of the accident. It's quite reasonable to believe the blown tires CAUSED the accident. Kids dropping spikes on the road could have caused the blowouts.

Re: Jim Kenzie on truck Speed limiters

The only roundabout I grew up with is a tiny one in front of the old coliseum in Stratford. It is single lane (but wide) so if someone is on it, you yield to them as you approach. On Sunday, I hit when in Hamilton and it had two marked lanes. So am I supposed to jump to the inside lane as soon as I enter? Then signal right, check my blind-spot, and ...

Re: I KNEW IT!!...

Just back from a couple days R&R in Niagara Falls. Let me tell ya, the speeds on the 2 lanes of QEW between St. Catherines and Hamilton are much higher than the 27 lanes of 401 west of Toronto. There were several cars clearly above 140... above 150 for a few. Left lane slugs were prominent there too. It was quite a site to see the snake-like line ...

Some great Reply's to the article link'd by that photo, re: "street racing map"

One of my favorites:
How stupid do the police and government think we are? This clearly has nothing to do with catching racers. How about a map showing where the increased revenue from this bogus law has gone!

Re: Following to close: no accident

Give less tickets. Charge less so people actually pay and don't fight. .

I almost fell out of my chair on that

Maybe sounds funny, but it's actually true (I'm living proof). Most of my 20+ tickets were acquired during my rowdy teen/early 20's era (the 80's). The fines were quite manageable and my insurance rates never went up ...
