Re: Careless Driving - For Running Stop Signs on a Bicycle

Your post made me wonder when the HTA section that qualifies bicycles as vehicles was written. IMHO, this is an outdated definition from the days where cyclists were considered a menace to the majority of folks on the move since they either walked or used a horse and buggy.

Clarification re: s.199 Failing to Report

This is in regards to an incident involving a colleague of mine.

He was driving the emergency vehicle with the warning systems of activated, driving at about 55km/h on a snow covered country road that has multiple bends. Upon coming out of a particular sharp bend, a woman was standing in the roadway and did not move when he honked the horn ...

Re: Emergency vehicles

I wish that the HTA would direct drivers to always move right, regardless if on a 2, 4, or 6 lane road. When driving code 4 (lights/siren), we always use the left lane unless blocked by stopped traffic. When drivers move left on multi-lane roadways, I find myself stuck behind them because 1) there is no left shoulder; 2) drivers to my right ...

Re: Petition to change HTA136 (1)(A)Failure to Stop at Stop

Instead of petetioning to have the wording of the offence changed or create a new HTA offence, you should petition your municipality to replace unnecessary stop signs with yields. It seems to be somewhat of an epidemic in North America to put 4-way stops at almost all intersections regardless of traffic volumes and rates of collisions. IMHO, a stop ...

Driver's lack of diligence = ....

This PSA shows why diligence is of utmost importance while driving. If one visits http://www.ourboots.ca/ and clicks on EMS, one can see the devastating impact of a driver who fails to pay attention. Sadly, this occurs more often than I ever imagined.

Maybe we should have dash cams in ambulances and forward the offences to the local PD! Imagine, a ...

What RI meant to say was the "driver of the ambulance", not the ambulance driver. They've gone the way of dinosaurs and the dodo bird! Althought I know what you mean, I'm anal about that.

For example, according to the MTO's official map (http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/map/images/pdf/southont/sheets/Map5.pdf, N24-N25), a senior living on route 12 near Twelve Mile Bay will not be allowed to leave said roadway ...

Re: Pedestrian deaths spike in GTA

I'd be curious to know how much of a role regulation, read over-regulation, plays in this scenario. I'm not suggesting that rules are a bad thing, but too much of a good thing isn't, well, good. If we think about it, based on me experiences in the GTA, drivers are constantly looking to find out which sign is where and prohibiting them from doing ...

Motorists are slow to react when we're behind them. Or they'll simply pull over to the left into the centre turning lane as I am overtaking them in that same lane...I was once voluntold by a female driver (as in forced) to test a rig's braking system that way and then she gave me a "what are you doing there?!" look. Earlier today I watched a police cruiser, lights & siren going, roaring down Victoria Park with a fire truck in tow. Okay, no issue... except TWO cars were hitching a high-speed ride behind the fire truck as most of the drivers cleared out of the way.

Had several do that to me a few times....then they got a visit from their friendly ...

I've always been curious to know why it is that after acknowledging that blue lights are safer at night, they have not been approved for all emergency vehicles. I don't think the argument that it's to allow people to instantly recognise a car or SUV as a police vehicle is sufficient to deny all emergency personnel the same level of protection ...

Yellow speed limit signs

I've been looking online without success, so I'm hoping someone here will be able to help. I know that white signs are regulatory and are associated with a fine when disobeyed. I want to prove a point, but before I do, I need to know if yellow speed limit signs, such as those found on on- and off- ramps are regulatory, or if they are warning. If ...

Re: State Trooper Loses it On Parademic Ambulance Driver!

Transport priority takes into account both the patient's condition and stability. As for myself, yes, I would pull-over if any emergency vehicle was attempting to pass me. However, if a LEO follows me onto the shoulder, that's when it becomes a different story. However, we are very fortunate that we medics have a great relationship with our PD.

I agree 100% T-bone collisions (along with multiple roll-overs) have a high fatality rate, even at low speeds. For those of you wondering why, it's because the aortic ligament, which hold the aorta (aretery leading directly out of the heart, about the diameter of your thumb), tears and allows the vessel to endlessly flop around in your chest...and ...

Did the officer have the right? Yes, of course. It is part of his job. Was it morally correct? That can only be answered in hindsight which is always 20/20.

I would still answer "yes," since the ambulance had no lights on (which wouldn't affect the patient as sirens might); however he should have been allowed to proceed once it was clear that a ...

Bear, I completely disagree with you. The photo radar solution just reinforces the belief that slow=safe and everything else (such as due care+attention and lane discipline be damned). The enforcement community should shift the emphasis on careless and jerkoff drivers.

I have always wondered why we are fixated on "speed = collision, speed ...

I know the local council here raised some rural roads from 80km - 90km this spring. However the local police have taken a zero tolerance policy in these areas. Re: Crooked parking

I've read my city's by-law and it does not mention anything about the requirement of parking within the lines. I've never seen a vehicle with a ticket for taking up more than one space. Not only inconsiderate drivers, but also vehicles with trailers, buses, etc...

However, if it's on-street parking, wouldn't that fall under the HTA?
