Re: Impaired boating
My mistake about HTA vs. Criminal Code. As much as one shouldn't be near water when drunk, many have that 'one or two beer' while canoeing or fishing from a human powered vessel. Do you guys think that a charge of impaired is appropriate or excessive if someone has a drink (inebriated or not) in a human powered vessel (regardless of any other ...

Impaired boating
I don't recall seeing this anywhere on the board, so if it's a repeat, I appologize. As most of us know (or at least ought to know), that the Criminal Code allows an impaired boating charge to be treated in the same manner as if one were driving. Interrestingly, the wording was originally "motorized vessel", but is now simply "vessel".

I couldn't agree more. There are always two sides to any story and blame goes both ways. It's a shame that media tend to be biased against any and all public agencies.hwybear wrote:Certainly the officer can take 1/2 the blame, but Moats also deserves half the blame here too!!

Re: Is this for real?
I once read an article that discussed the various stages of cognitive reasoning. It was divided into 6 or 7 stages, stating that (theoretically) LEO functions at stage 4. To those in that particular level, the law is the law and nobody can get around it. It's the "I'll give my own grandma a ticket" mentality. Fortunately, only a few such as this ...

but when you take almost all of the judgment and decision-making away from motorists they stop thinking altogether.
Agreed, and I see it every day. Pedestrians presume it's safe to cross because the light says so, and they proceed without looking. I also note that many people cut/drive in front of us when going lights and sirens that I can ...

Direction or Discretion? Your thoughts...
I just read an interresting article in The Toronto Star relating to highway signage. You can find it here: http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/561204
In my opinion, there are too many signs on our roadways telling us what we can or can't do, when and where. It so happens that in my city there are multiple no left turn signs installed in ...

Re: Where does it apply?
In other words, the stop sign prior to getting onto a public roadway is enforceable, but the ones in the middle of the parking lot are not. Correct?

You know, maybe they should ban parents from buying souped-up cars for their kids.
It may be worthwhile to investigate the effectiveness of limiting the hp of one's vehicle based on driving experience regardless of age. I don't foresee any major issues as it should more or less cover most sports cars and some luxury vehicles without penalizing ...

Common sense isin't as common as it used to be. I'm proud to say that I have uncommon sense by today's standards.

I know it's been a while since there has been some activity on this thread, but I need to make my thoughts known. As you may or may not know, I chose to be a Paramedic and that means that my ambulance looks like one huge Christmas Tree. 8) Here are a few stories that show how stupid people are. Please excuse me if I sound like a general ass, but ...

Re: Zero Tolerance for 1st 5 years of driving...
This legislation is nothing more than a feel good reaction by our government who can then turn around and say "Look at what we did; we listened to the voters and taxpayers". I live in a mid-size city in Northern Ontario and the population is spread out over an area bigger than Toronto, York, Durham, Scarborough, Ajax, Pickering, Oshawa, Oakville ...
