Re: Signalling for speed trap

There are also legitimate reasons to flash your lights. Truckers do this when overtaking each other. It's a long way to the back of the truck and not always easy to see when you are clear of the vehicle you are passing. The passed truck will flash when the passing truck has cleared them.

When a semi, large truck or Greyhound bus is passing me, I ...

Re: Nervous and in need of help

Fines are not our business. Fighting them is.

The original question was how much will the fine be.

the fine is $280 in per-kilometre, plus $15 = $295

I don't understand why the victim surcharge is only $15.

According to Regulation 161/00, fines between $251 and $300 create a victim surcharge of $60.

Which means the total fine is $280 + $60 ...

Re: Requesting disclosure in toronto

You can FOI the radar manual but check this out first . It's an appeal filed with the Information and Privacy Commissioner. Two points to note with this appeal, first the IPC ordered Toronto police to release the radar manual and second, about two thirds down the page
the Police also state that the affected party [the manufacturer] has provided a ...

Re: Requesting disclosure in toronto

It sounds like you were Eastbound on Bloor St. E and they got you over the bridge. They've been using lidar on that stretch for quite a while. If by some fluke it was radar then the suicide barrier (think big metal) and traffic going the opposite direction would be factors to consider in creating doubt.

50km/h is the default residential speed so ...

Re: Airplane Caught Me!

McGuinty announced the launch of OPP air on May 5. You can see a video of the OPP plane in action but you have to listen to his speech. :? Pictures of the event can be seen here .

The London Free Press did a story in July.

It is the observer officer in the plane.
State troopers (I believe from Ohio) have been training OPP since last August. The ...

Re: Nervous and in need of help

And a beautiful demerit point system it is! I like the OCJ layout because it is easy to read the speeding fines.
Victim surcharge is $15.
The surcharge starts at $10 and goes to 25% when the fine is over $1,000.

Re: Requesting disclosure in toronto

No harm done Synergy. The form I suggested is an example for people who have never seen one before and don't know what to write. Typically all you get is a photocopy of the ticket in response to a general disclosure request. And that is never good enough.

It's important to stress that disclosure is really about knowing what the charge and evidence ...

Re: Mini Trucker needs your help!

A couple of additional comments. You may want to check out section 82 of the HTA, inspections of unsafe vehicles.

Also Reg 381/02 deals with testing, repair and compliance with respect to section 82.

Re: Airplane Caught Me!

After a very long absence, airplane surveillance was brought back last year. There is an actual machine called VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer & Recorder) used to determine your speed and the plane has a viewport to observe you. I may be wrong, but I believe in Ontario the pilot is the officer using the device.

A good introduction to it can ...

Re: Requesting disclosure in toronto

The "Notice of Intention To Appear" is the form you complete to request a trial. Make sure you select "Yes" under "I intend to challenge the evidence".

In Toronto the amount of time from offence date to court date is down to 13 months. The first six will be used for "intake" where the Crown prepares your case for trial. When this is complete you ...

Re: Nervous and in need of help

For reference, you can look up how many demerit points here, the amount of the fine for speeding under the Ontario Court of Justice and the victim surcharge under Regulation 161/00 of the POA.

Re: NEW Durham Police Electronically Printed Tickets Fatal Error

Although we have been off on several tangents I want to draw us back to Radarscam's original question in this thread about electronic tickets. I found the regulation under the POA: ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTS, O. Reg. 497/94 .

According to section 2(1) A document is properly signed in an electronic format if the document contains a code, name or number ...

Re: NEW Durham Police Electronically Printed Tickets Fatal Error

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. I just got back from vacation: three weeks in Europe where I enjoyed a far more "rational" driving experience.

Bookm, I've never read "The Law of Traffic Offences", by Scott C. Hutchison but it sounds like most of the literature on the topic. I have read Allan E. Scott's "Fight that Ticket in Ontario ...

Re: Mini Trucker needs your help!

Shocker,

When you modify/rebuild a vehicle, you must get a Safety Standard Certificate from a licensed mechanic that indicates your truck meets the minimum safety requirements in Ontario. These are set out in Regulation 611 of the HTA.

You are likely being charged against that regulation for the "unfit" part. An easy way to find out about your ...
