Do you have to answer the door? No, unless you're on conditions to do so (house arrest for example).
But why bother creating such a hassle?
I'd like to firstly point out that you do NOT know if they have 'reasonable cause' and you do NOT know if there have been any criminal incidents in the area.
The officer might be canvassing to see if you ...

Re: officer death in the family
I find it despicable that you're trying to turn an officer's loss into an advantage for yourself after being caught for (probably) breaking the law.
You're also questioning the entire reason for his absence solely BECAUSE he is an officer. If the JP or prosecutor were absent, you would not be attacking their credibility.
How would you like it ...

Re: Cops and Traffic Stops
If you have nothing to hide, why be confrontational and non cooperative.
Because this isn't a police state where police can do / ask anything they want.
Some Officers occasionally need to be reminded of that.
Nobody said it was a police state.
And the police can ask you anything in the world that they want- but that doesn't mean you have ...

Because the officer was not willing to play 20 Questions roadside does not constitute grounds for ticket dismissal, if that's your question.

Simply because a formal statement may not have been collected from you does not render the police officer's investigation improper and not thorough.

Re: Failed to stop at a stop sign officer said to go to cour
A couple things to be aware of:
1) you were charged December 3rd, and I'm assuming your court date is coming up after that date plus one year. Take a look through any threads about how to file an 11b charter motion- the argument could be made that your rights were infringed upon due to failure to be granted a trial within a reasonable amount of ...

1) Ignorance of the law is not a defence.
2) Although your criticism of the police is appreciated, *edited by moderator*, you can't expect the officer to stop every single person who is breaking the law when she's already dealing with you. Question: when you go fishing, do you catch every fish in the lake?

There is no lawful requirement for your information to be checked by the officer, and is therefore not a defence.

Re: Got rear ended by TTC Street Car
On the back of the ticket you received for Careless Driving (the yellow page, not the white), there are three options on there. Read through the options, and if you feel that the charge of Careless Driving is not applicable, then take it to trial.

Hey,
I don't know why you don't think you think a lawyer isn't necessary, but in this instance, yes. Hire some representation. Were you drunk at the time of the crash which caused you to run?

Drinking and driving laws
I`ve been thinking about this for the past couple of days and maybe somebody can shed some more perspective on it. I know there are a lot of knowledge, experienced and educated people on this board!

Yeah tell me about it... I live in Durham region and exit at the Harmony and Bloor St 401 exit in Oshawa... just east of that highway exit is a two-lane left turn lane that, when Im on the outside of it, I constantly have people swerve into my lane during their turn. Its so dangerous and people seem to not notice, or care. It blows my mind.

I happen to know it's perfectly legal but I can't locate any specific section within the Highway Traffic Act regarding it.

1. If I take this to court, what should I do? I will obviously higher someone specializing in this to defend me, however, since she advised me to challenge the ticket, will she appear in court? Since she pulled me, and a bunch of people over due to procrastination anyway, I would expect that she is a slacker.
