Re: State Trooper Loses it On Parademic Ambulance Driver!

I can have a patient that is a level 2 acuity, yet transport without lights and sirens of activated. Therefore, justifying pulling over an ambulance based on the fact that the emergency lights are off is a bad idea.

But if you were transferring a patient where priority did not require the use of lights, wouldn't you yield to a cruiser with ...

Re: State Trooper Loses it On Parademic Ambulance Driver!

I think there should be a camera on an officer's person. One of those lipstick cameras with a 2 GB memory card, upload to a server at the end of the shift.

Something seems off about the face of the officer with his hand around the paramedic's neck. Could be just me, but for a second there I saw something more than just a face made from the effort ...

Re: State Trooper Loses it On Parademic Ambulance Driver!

Hmm..looks like I'm in the minority on the vote. :o

The cop had every "right" to pull over the EMS, but simply having that right does not automatically mean it should be exercised. I think a better-worded question would be "Was the cop right to pull over an ambulance?" I would still answer "yes," since the ambulance had no lights on (which wouldn ...

Re: Ticket History

Just be totally honest and in my experience they will be fair to you. When switching companies for my grandparents, I disclosed everything and even offered to e-mail pictures of existing body damage. We had two tickets from two years ago that should have been in their system, but the agent said only one came up and based our rate on that even ...

Re: Ticket on a bicycle

Bicycle tickets do not affect motor vehicle insurance.

If you want to be on the road, all signs and laws apply to you. Frivolous ticket.

Re: HOV Lanes

I was on the Florida Turnpike, no idea which area but it was about 2 km from one of the toll collecting stations. Maybe it was just an anomaly on that day...I never drove in Florida again, and I've never been up to those speeds since. The Escape only goes up to 100 mph.

Re: HOV Lanes

I remember Florida. I was 16, fresh with a G1 license - come to think of it, it may have been illegal for me to drive on a Florida highway.

Rental Cavalier on the Florida Turnpike, pushing 110 mph to keep up with traffic, and had a FHP car pass me like I wasn't even there. What happened to the old people?!

Atlanta wasn't as fast, but I remember ...

Re: HOV Lanes

Even the northern States have good lane discipline, except for the major urban areas like around New York City, Chicago, or Detroit.

They also tend to respect the speed limit more. Cars will do 60 mph in a 55 zone, 65 in a 60, etc. Not like us with 20 km/h over the limit being expected on the highways. Not sure if it's greater enforcement or a ...

Re: HOV Lanes

Speed isn't dangerous per se , although the argument can be made that when something goes wrong, it takes more skill to recover at a higher speed, and if that fails, the consequences are increasingly greater.

I don't like HOV/Diamond lanes either, for all of the reasons you stated.

1) Why are they on the left? I know that it's just "the way it's ...

Re: HTA 154 (1) a

From the way I interpret it, she drove onto the paved shoulder before the start of the off-ramp, entered the off-ramp, noticed the officer, and merged back onto the highway for the "move over" law (which, by the way, does not apply unless emergency lights are flashing) - and then the officer waved her and another car over.

I think the officer may ...

I thought I read somewhere that radars will truncate instead of rounding, so 114.8 still becomes 114 to always err in favour of the driver.

Re: Motorcycle Groups and Right of Way

Lane splitting is legal in several States as well, which is why I was unsure of the laws here. Haven't paid much attention to the motorcycle bits of the HTA.

I think most of the laws require traffic flow to be under a certain limit, and the lane splitter may not exceed the flow of traffic by a certain amount.

 I'm picturing a six-foot tall cop with sprinkles in his hair ripping doors off of Civics and growling at the drivers.
