Re: Correction for posting, is this law 6 years old
Congratulations on your good fortune, thehun1, but did the Crown say why they were withdrawing the charge? Your original post touched off such a good discussion here that I'm probably not the only one who would like to know the details.

You misunderstand the situation, BelSlySTi. That's not a radar gun that HwyBear is holding, it's the biggest mothering Taser in the world and that damn donkey is goin' down!

Re: Interesting reading HTA 172
You're an "cop."
I'm not relying on the cases, I'm relying on what he Supreme Court said...Wake up.
Yes, he's an cop, and he's also a valued member of and contributor to this board. In fact, his posts are particularly appreciated precisely because, though coming from the other side of the badge, they are rational, informed, clear, to the point ...

Re: Disobey Sign 182(2)
Correct, nothing preventing crossing the lines.......but normally the lines are placed in areas where other offences might apply.....no clear view on curve, hill, bridge, railway crossings etc.
Well, I'll be [whatever]! I did not know that, and it makes sense. Thanks for that, ticketcombat and Bear.
So the issue at intersections like Hwy. 10 ...

Re: Disobey Sign 182(2)
The bilingual argument may make any discussion moot here (and good luck with it), but I think there's still an interesting point. I detest cutters as much as anybody (i.e., drivers who deliberately drive in a right lane past cars that are cooperating at a slow spot, then cut into the head of the line) but I'm wondering just where a lane marked for ...

Re: Disobey Sign 182(2)
it was a dotted line where I tried to change lanes.
Wouldn't this make it a legal lane change (assuming correct signaling, etc.)? I wouldn't have thought you'd be "locked in" until the line became solid. If the bilingual angle works, great; but I would have expected common sense to apply. (I'm no expert on the law, but I do drive that highway and ...

Re: GPS
I've had a TomTom for a couple of months now, and my experience is much like those above. It's very useful for navigation on a trip, much less so for hiking. I wonder if the speed over the ground is a factor; i.e., the little computer likes a relatively high rate of angular change between it and the satellites, and at a walking pace the rate of ...

Re: Impaired Info?
I suspected as much. Sounds like in this, as in many things, our police methods are more sensible (and at least as effective) as the cowboy stuff we see on that TV show. Breathalizer readings are surely better evidence than the accused's ability to perform feats of strength and agility on the spot. (And either would beat what I heard so often as ...

Re: Impaired Info?
Something I've long wondered about -- do we in Ontario make people suspected of impaired driving do the same physical tests that we see on COPS on TV from the Excited States? I don't think I'm likely to fall under suspicion any time soon if I don't drink, but I do drive, and ... you never know! If I were told right now to get off my chair, tip my ...

Re: Street racing?
Just lower all the governed speeds in vehicles and will not have these issues to this extent! Put them all at 130km/hr.
With respect, HB, the opposition to this legislation (172) and the way it's being used isn't about the targeting of drivers who really do drive at wildly excessive speed (or commit other nuisances) on public roadways. To focus ...

Charge as normal at roadside....go to court.....when conviction registered 30 day suspension on 1st offence and $2000, 90 day on 2nd offence and $5000, 1yr on 3rd offence and $10000.
Yes! First the charge, then the trial, then the conviction, then the penalty. That's how a just system works. And the severity of the penalty should reflect society ...

Re: How old are your tires?
Hmm. Interesting. I went down to the basement and checked my Michelin X-Ice winter tires. Date code 0405, and I bought them in December, 2005. No problem there. So I check the Goodyear Allegras that I bought a month ago, that are on the car now: no date codes. Presumably, as the video suggests, those codes are on the inboard side of the tires (I ...
