How utterly ridiculous.Friend of mine is a 911 operator. She said today that they're getting swamped with 911 calls of people telling on other drivers on their cell phones.

Re: Hands Free only Ocober 26, 2009
I never had much use for cellphones up until very recently when I bought a cheap phone for emergency purposes only. I drive a lot now to get to and from work/school and home and enrolled in CAA as well for extra roadside protection. I bought a bluetooth for $19.99 at Walmart along with my pay-as-you-go Virgin Mobile (this past September) and it ...

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
Yeah, my deductible is higher than the cost will be for repairing the windshield, even if it turns out I need a new one. If I opt to fix the dents (especially the major one overtop my windshield), it may take it over the deductible. If that's the case, I will go the route you are talking about. Easier on the nerves, I've paid for the coverage, and ...

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
Hi Proper1, Yes, they do get it all the time but that does not make them immune, nor does the fact that insurance provide for the repair (actually, unless there is damage over $1000, it still comes out of our pocket) under comprehensive mean that we cannot go after them civilly (providing it is not frivolous and the damage is quite extensive). It ...

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
Off-topic, but while Marquisse is gone, shh! - aren't there workplace safety rules against truckers clearing their trailer tops of ice? It's above the height limit where you need to be tied off, and there is no place to tie off to. At least that's what I've heard.

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
Actually, it is a liability on their part, and I know that they get it all the time. I'm not going to bother since it'll cost $90.00 to fix the windshield and I am not going to bother with fixing the dent over my windshield. However, claiming it is a "road hazard" does not negate responsibility. It most certainly came off the truck and not kicked ...

Re: How to submit photographic evidence at trial?
Well, when submitting evidence like photographs, since you are the person who took those photos, you are going to be present in the courtroom to authenticate them. I don't know the other rules of evidence such as providing them to the prosecution (or if that needs to be done prior to trial) as I am rusty on them, so I'll sit back now and wait until ...

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
Yeah, I'll not bother if it's under $100.00. He's claiming there was no load and it was rocks from the road. Bull excrement. A littany of rocks does not come from the road when it is a disposal truck in front. Common sense, and, he forgets, I was driving on the same paved road. Yeah, 6 car lengths behind and I'm getting 7-10 hits of "road debris ...

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
I am not happy. I spoke with the logistic's manager and basically, he said he wasn't about to set a precedent and pay for my windshield repair and that is what insurance is for. I told him my deductible wouldn't cover it and he said that there was no load on the truck, therefore what I said happened, basically, didn't. Then I got angry.

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
Meh, just called my insurance broker and it would go through comprehensive. :(
No worries though, if they decide to be jerks, I'll just let the officer who is doing the report know and he'll charge them with fail to remain and I'll send them a bill with the occurence number/copy of the report to them. It'll be about $90.00 to fix the chips, but ...

Re: Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
Going on the officer's option to charge with "fail to remain," would this be considered an accident where fault lies with the truck driver (unsecure load)? If so, no deductible on your end, and rates cannot be affected.

Dump Truck/Debris/Chipped Windshield ?'s
I was on my way into work this a.m. moving eastbound on the QEW/403 at the Ford plant and got hit with a mindfield of debris coming from a dump truck about 5-6 car lengths ahead of me. Two chips on the drivers' side of the windshield and possible other damage occurred as a result of this. It was an insane amount of debris, small, and I couldn't ...

I agree, Pinch. This practice has been going on for years. The TPA issues the ticket - the ONLY ticket that one has to pay [ETA: Impark is the only other ticket issuer that you must pay and the ONLY private company with this privilege in the City of Toronto, and probably in the province].

And so are semi-full cups of timmies coffee/tea/hot chocolate.
Really, I just lost my grip while giving an insane driver trying to drive me out of my small lane on Main St East in Hamilton the Birdie.
My timmies cup and its contents landed on his windshield by accident.
He slowed down.

I laughed when I read that part of what defines "stunt driving" is driving with a person in the trunk.
All those kids trying to smuggle their buddies into the drive-in had better watch out. Imagine being caught "Stunt driving" in your mother's Aveo. LOL!!!!!

Re: RIGHT Hand Turn from Middle Lane on Red - Opinions/Facts
Thanks RI. Your explanation explains all the other explanations.
So, for the purposes of your explanation, even if the middle lane is designated a left AND right, or (if a 4-way intersection), left, right and centre, it is still considered designated right turning lane. I may make a right on a red, but always giving right of way (and using common ...

Thks Bear for the edit and move. I appreciate your post as well. It doesn't answer my question because we know we can turn in the middle lane if said middle lane is marked, but can we actually make the right hand turn from the marked middle lane on a red light?

RIGHT Hand Turn from Middle Lane on Red - Opinions/Facts
Scenario:
You are coming off of a highway exit and there are 3 lanes: right hand lane for right hand turn; middle lane for left AND right turn (but no straight thru since it is only a three-way intersection); and left lane for left hand turn. You are first in the middle lane, signalling to make a right.

Re: Car Crushing Michael Bryant is in some hot water !
I was shocked when I heard about it this morning! However, from the sound of it, and IMPO, the cyclist is responsible for his own death. He held onto the hed rest of the car, and if that happened to me and I was driving, I would panic and speed as well out of fear of this nutcase hitting or hurting me. I suppose we'll hear the entire story in the ...

I think people get confused with unlawful search of vehicle with stopping a vehicle, because we can be stopped just to see if our documents (driving) are legit. Otherwise, I think that the R.I.D.E. program would be illegal.
