Re: serious defence for serial ticketers.

As long as you keep your regular GPS on (depending on the settings), you should be covered with proper logs. The cheapest option is a GPS data logger that will either record to an SD card or that will transfer the logs via bluetooth. You can also use a bluetooth GPS device along with a netbook and a nettop with a webcam hooked up and Quantum ...

Re: Top Ten EASY Ways to Dodge a Ticket!

It looks like curiosity's a highly desired trait in a police constable. On one occasion 2 constables were highly interested in entering my house even though the person they wanted to interview wasn't in. I politely declined and explained that I value my privacy, but offered to answer any other questions that they had regarding the person or the ...

Re: Top Ten EASY Ways to Dodge a Ticket!

Well, in my case, I have zero issues with driving a boring family sedan. Actually I'd find Ford Transit Connect if it came with a diesel powerplant very sexxxay 8)

Re: Top Ten EASY Ways to Dodge a Ticket!

I have been following all of these either out of common sense (seat belts, no cell phones or even hands-free while driving) or to minimize the risk of legal exposure and number of value-added tickets (keeping the documents up to snuff for example).
A couple more tips:
1) Driving a neutral-colored family sedan without any obvious modifications ...

Re: serious defence for serial ticketers.

Might as well go LBS. Trapster's been praised by the community, but I haven't used it.. Also, police scanners are streaming over the Internet these days, so that's another great way to find out about speed traps.

Re: serious defence for serial ticketers.

Not too far west of Kipling. I'm not sure if the right lane is still for buses/taxis/motorcycles/3 car occupants, but it was at the time of the ticketing. Actually I'm not sure if the signs already have motorcycle stickers.. I don't take that stretch of the road very often these days (especially since Parker Brothers moved).

Re: When officers break the law...

Another note on the incident on that video. I had some martial arts training and have been attacked by as many as 7 guys (locals doing some fanny-smackin').. If I were to offer physical resistance, I'd never get on the ground, especially in a multiple attacker situation. Staying on my feet would allow me to strike, grapple or run. Therefore, if I ...

Re: When officers break the law...

Well, I agree with most of your post in principle.
For starters, a note on myself. I'm not some FTP-shouting punk-teen. I'm a married man in my 30's. I also grew up in a country that didn't have a proper constitution or a set of checks and balances to keep the cops honest, so I've seen the best and the worst from law enforcement officers.
A law ...

Re: serious defence for serial ticketers.

maybe you can let us all know what road, Municipality so we do not run into this situation?

Dundas (HWY5), Toronto (Etobicoke).

JPs don't chew officers up in court, never seen it happen in 22 years...still it sounds like you were wrongly ticketed...good thing the system works, mostly...

The system worked because the constable made a fatal ...

Re: serious defence for serial ticketers.

Red light ticket? So the officer just made it up?

Yes.. Both my passenger and I were SHOCKED that he ticketed me. Doing 50 in a 50 zone, going straight through the intersection (thus not slowing down to make turn or anything like that), the light was green when I entered the intersection and was just turning yellow as I made it to the other end ...

Re: When officers break the law...

Yes, I found a few articles and there are others out there. My point was not to point out every wrongdoing that every cop in Canada ever did and got away with. I just pointed out a couple of the ones that made it into the media.

And I'm curious, if the system is broken, what would you suggest?

1) If you're trying to defend yellow shirt's ...

Re: serious defence for serial ticketers.

I can think of at least 2 situations where having a camera would have been a sure-fire way to avoid conviction.
1) Red light ticket (I lucked out and it had a fatal error, otherwise it would have been the constable's word against mine without video evidence)
2) HOV lane ticket (since it was municipal and as far as I knew/know treated as a bylaw ...

Re: When officers break the law...

Back to the original topic, the real issue with police officers breaking the law is that no matter how many checks are in place, the system is inadequate to stop them or punish them.

Re: When officers break the law...

Since I didn't wanna post the whole article, I left out the bit on paid duty.
Those fattened pay cheques do not include lucrative "paid duty," where off-duty officers, paid by private companies, earn $60 to $70 an hour to perform such duties as directing traffic around construction.

Actually I really hope that they were accident investigators ...
