Re: 153 In A 100 Zone (Highway 404 Southbound In Richmond Hill)
At the time I suffered from demerit disinformation syndrome.. I figured since it didn't involve demerit points, it wouldn't affect my insurance rates and also figured that it wouldn't be worth the special trip out to Sudbury to fight it (the constable was camping on the only road leading up to the campus, at 2am, at a time of the year when the ...

Tires can squeal for any reason even if you don't accelerate rapidly.. Cold pavement, hard tire compound, p/u truck with an empty bed.. It scares the living [censored] outta me that I could get 172'd for any one of those reasons. I hope that the crook, the killer and our whole provincial parliament get what they deserve for pushing Bill 203 on us.

Re: 153 In A 100 Zone (Highway 404 Southbound In Richmond Hill)
Fear of lawsuits makes all speedos indicate a speed that is a bit lower than the actual speed. The faster you go, the more pronounced it gets. Some are pretty bad (when the speedo on my 95 Jetta is showing 130, I'm really doing 116-117, but when it's showing 60, I'm really doing 55) while others can be a bit tighter (a Kia Rio 5 that I've driven ...

Re: Fail to drive in marked lane... section 154 (1)
Out of curiosity, why would you be worried about the points if your record is reasonably clean? Here are a few facts that you should know:
1) Insurance companies don't look at points, only at convictions and whether they are major or minor. Generally you can treat EVERYTHING as a "minor" conviction (speeding 1km/h over the limit, speeding 40km/h ...

I'd be more concerned with them entering the 94 kn/h amendment. The fine would go up from $138.75 and 3 demerits to $259 and 4 demerits. Also most insurance companies see anything 30 over and above as a MAJOR conviction which could seriously mess with your rates.
Where you going 94 km/h?
If so, pay this thing and be greatful.

I'm also surprised that SOMEONE got charged with this. I hope it becomes a wider trend considering how nannyish our speed limits are. If you can't do the limit, you need rest, better training or to fix your junkbox.

Re: Recently disappointed in two officers - Story and questions
For some vehicles, accelerating 0-80 in 100m isn't that difficult. I accelerate up to 100 in a heck of a lot less than that on certain badly engineered on-ramps

Re: What's The Solution?
So, close to 300,000 people are driving on suspended licenses? How many licensed drivers are in Ontario? I'd figure that for every 9 vehicle-owners, there's one driving his on a suspended license. I'd draw 2 possible confusions from that:
1) That we have an extremely high percentage of street-racing drunk-driving criminals
2) That our enforcement ...

Re: Speed trap: SB Royal York, N of the Queensway, Toronto
Variable speed limits work quite well in other parts of the world, including the GTA. I think it was Eastern Sauga where I've seen one of those "40 when flashing, otherwise 50 or 60" signs and they're also all over Calgary. The Germans are even more technologically advanced than us and have signs that display limits according to the condition. That ...

Another TPS special... Going after the dangerous school zone speeders (most likely giving them an earful about screaming dying CHILDREN!!! [/u][/i]) on a straight stretch of well-illuminated road, 2 days before any of those high school punks will come anywhere near the area and most of them will be driving in anyway. Fortunately, it being the end ...

Re: Police Notes
But if those notes are to be used in court, then they better be understandable to the defendant. Hence the need for a "translation." It can also depend on your handwriting and the quality of the photocopy. Last time I requested the disclosure, the handwriting was legible and understandable, so I didn't need to request a translation.

Pray that you don't get your disclosure. At worst you'll get an adjournment, which allows you to use 11b.. At best, the JP will just stay your charges and you're off scott-free.

Re: Speeding 115km/hr on highway 400
I never knew an area where there was 2 lanes on the 400. I learned something new...where is this?
Most us civvies refer to the number of lanes in the direction of travel. So if it's a 4-lane highway, we usually say 2 lanes because all we're interested in is the number of lanes that we can use at one time.

Re: Speeding 115km/hr on highway 400
You could plead guilty at trial. The only advantage of pleading guilty to the lower charge is the reduced fine amount. Demerit points don't affect your insurance rates. They may indicate what's considered "major" or "minor." In general, just about everything is considered "minor," such as speeding 1-44km/h over the limit (some companies will treat ...
