Re: passing emergency vehicle

Slim to none.. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't go to court and dispute your charges. You have other outs (mostly procedural stuff.. check out ticketcombat.com).
For this offence, the cop was fairly reasonable with you. Basically within the lower end of the $400-$2000 scale for the first time around.

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...

Somebody has to take charge of the scene, especially in cases where there's no breathing or heavy bleeding. My instructor told me to think of the person as a corpse. If you can't help them, you can't make'em any deader, if you save their life, it's a huge bonus, so you might as well try .
Note for those who come across a motorcycle accident. DO NOT ...

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse

I should have paid more attention reading, too. You are correct. And then they scream at "speeding" drivers. "I was taking my sonny-boy across this small residential street, quaintly named the Queen Elizabeth Way, when some crazy young punk driving a souped up rice rocket almost ran us over doing 300km/h. Why doesn't the government do something ...

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse

Every person in charge of a vehicle or on horseback on a highway who is overtaken by a vehicle or equestrian travelling at a greater speed shall turn out to the right and allow the overtaking vehicle or equestrian to pass.

Maybe both the riders and the driver got confused. In any case, while the law allows for horses to be on the roads, the ...

Re: Should I fight my 15km/h over speeding ticket?

Bear, that's an insurance industry issue. Lowered speeds don't affect your insurance policy any less than the original speed. I think doc tickets are cool though. I'll double check with people who work in the industry though. That way the speeding drivers are still punished, the province gets its pound of flesh and the insurance industry gets ...

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse

That's where I have my Eastern European upbringing to thank. Where I grew up, kids knew to cross only at crosswalks and to look left and right before actuallly crossing... By the age of 5. It's sad that kids here don't learn to do the same by the age of 12. Maybe community policing programs should be established to deal with the problem. Also more ...

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse

Also I know how intimidating it can be when you collide with a member of a group. Maybe he felt threatened by the behaviour of the riders as a group.

On one occasion, my buddy and I were riding our motorcycles and we saw a guy driving a Lexus cut off another motorcyclist. The motorcyclist crashed as a direct result of the driver's action ...

Re: Should I fight my 15km/h over speeding ticket?

I had a 20% rate increase after I got a 5 over ticket on top of a 10 over ticket. Was under 25 at the time.

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse

I should, but I don't. Since my hearing has been messed up (just short of being technically hearing-impaired) even before I started riding, I don't even notice the regular noise.. As for the horn, it's not like I use it non stop or for long periods of time. Mostly used for a few seconds at a time to warn careless and/or aggressive drivers planning ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...

Last season, I was in the left lane and a guy driving an old green Escort wagon was making a right out of the right lane. Just as I'm about to pass him, he decides to swing over to the left without looking or signalling. Fortunately, I'm always on the ball and managed to stop 6" from his car. Had he done that a second sooner, I would have been ...

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse

You're giving some pretty good examples, Bear. Also one thing that really pisses me off are kids walking down the middle of the road and even ignoring cars when they see them coming up. If one of those kids ever gets hit by a car, guess who will be blamed for the collision. I received very little sympathy from the school administration, the parents ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...

And even if the car driver had been speeding, he'd have to be doing at least twice the speed limit for him not to be reasonably anticipated by turning traffic. Under those circumstances, there would have been no survivors.
Too many people turn or make a lane change without looking and blame the other vehicle operator's speed, especially when they ...

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse

While the p/u driver should be charged with quite a bit for his involvement in the collision (and not keep his licence), horse riders should also be more considerate of other vehicles on the roads.
The way it looks to me, there was a group of horse riders spread out all over the road. If they want to spread out, they can do that on horse trails and ...

Re: Should I fight my 15km/h over speeding ticket?

A 15 over ticket is treated the same as 1 over and 45 over ticket. With that being said, I think the constable let you off easy. Whatever you were doing with your cell phone, if it distracted you enough for you to be swerving out of your lane, it can also qualify as careless driving. You could have easily killed someone.
It's your choice whether ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...

That's what you get when you create a nanny state.. There was a thread on a motorcycle forum about a guy who stopped at a Stop sign at an intersection with a major road. Without properly looking, he decided to proceed. Fortunately, he stalled his car and didn't hit the motorcyclist who was going in front of him, as per his right of way. The thread ...
