Re: Canada's worst driver

At the end, I turned to my wife and proclaimed, "Yayy! I'm still the only CWD driver who is actually a GOOD driver". LOL. She just stared at me...... LMAO

- I love the gramma. She does what a lot of us WISH we could do... Blow that stupid red light when no one is coming!!... Oh, and roll stop signs (as if they were yield signs).
- The Asian lady ...

Dilemma: I want to go by a cruiser that is right at the speed limit. If I'm 10 over the limit, he'll stop me after passing him! If he was coming the other way, that same 10-over would have been just fine.

Could ...

Re: In Timmins the accident victim gets the ticket too!

I agree, it is poorly written. I get the jist of it (cyclists are to WALK in an area designated for pedestrians) but the word "along" could clearly be used when riding along the edge of the road and crossing straight across the intersection.

I don't mean to pick on cyclists, but I had THIS guy approach me the other day and I unfairly profiled ALL ...

Re: In Timmins the accident victim gets the ticket too!

Naw... it reads:

Riding in crosswalks prohibited
(29) No person shall ride a bicycle across a roadway within or along a crosswalk at an intersection or at a location other than an intersection which location is controlled by a traffic control signal system. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (29).

It's covering intersection crosswalks AS WELL AS non ...

Re: In Timmins the accident victim gets the ticket too!

My bad...

I misinterpreted your scenario. But I still see fault on your behalf if you rode out into the crosswalk . I assume you were on the sidewalk on the left side of the street (facing oncoming traffic) so you hit the Jeeps right side when he pulled out from the side street to turn right. The driver should still only have to factor in walking ...

Re: In Timmins the accident victim gets the ticket too!

Let me see if I understand you...

You were riding on the sidewalk and continued straight out into the crosswalk, still riding. If this is the case, the charge seems to be applicable.

I have always believed we were supposed to walk our bikes across the intersection when in the crosswalk. I taught my kids the same thing. A drivers visibility is ...

Re: 1 way street what is it?

I believe the stop signs are placed as a cheap way to prevent serious accidents should a driver not realize he is going the wrong way on a one-way street.

Two of the houses I grew up in were on one-way streets. We always reminded company about it before they left the house. There is nothing scarier than watching a car at speed confidently head the ...

Re: Disobey stop sign - Fail to stop HTA 136(1)(a)

This won't come as a surprise to most here ;) but I think we should have abolished the "complete stop" element of traffic law a long time ago. Many European countries prefer a "yield" type system and it makes sense.

It is substantially more exhaustive to get a vehicle moving from a stop than it is to move from a "rolling stop". I can just imagine ...

Re: 12hr vs 3 day Suspension

What would I do without Google?!

There's also a variety of products found in the environment that can lead to erroneous BAC results with breathalyzers. Some these products include substances or compounds found in cleaning fluids, celluloid, gasoline, paint removers, and in lacquers. Other common substances that can result in false BAC levels are ...

Re: 12hr vs 3 day Suspension

Your right! I'm not...

In your reply you used beer and mouthwash as examples. Both these are not pure alcohol. They are mixed with water. If "fresh" in the mouth, the alcohol component contaminates the breathalyzer and results in a higher reading than a "deep lung" exhalation. If a suspect is bleeding in his mouth, his blood is constantly ...

Then I have to assume ALL charges laid under this section have conformed to this exact scenario you describe. Then I guess it's a good law.

Re: Nitrous and its implications

Personally, I think the whole idea of making nitrous illegal is a joke. I think a few stuffy legislators watched the Fast & the Furious one too many times.

Nitrous is just the poor-mans way of pulling more horsepower out of an engine. The same results can be gained by supercharging, turbo-charging, or by making major upgrades to the engine ...

Re: 12hr vs 3 day Suspension

From Wiki:

Mouth alcohol

One of the most common causes of falsely high breathalyzer readings is the existence of mouth alcohol. In analyzing a subject's breath sample, the breathalyzer's internal computer is making the assumption that the alcohol in the breath sample came from alveolar air—that is, air exhaled from deep within the lungs ...

Re: 12hr vs 3 day Suspension

Do these machines have the ability to detect the presence of blood in the breath sample? Perhaps I have such poor dental hygiene that my gum's bleed. I blow into a machine designed to test for alcohol levels in "breath". Is the breath sample not contaminated and inaccurate?

Alcohol concentrations in blood are much higher than in breath. So will ...

Re: car-bicycle accident- fail to remain...

Sidewalks are for walking pedestrians only. That's why they're called pedestrian sidewalks, not bike paths. Motorists should only expect to encounter walking pedestrians when exiting a street.

If there is an idiot on the road and I'm on my bicyle - forget the law, bylaw, and posted bilingual sign, I'm going on the sidewalk. Quite obviously in ...
