G1 Driver in Other Provinces/USA

Unread post by jccool5000 on

What happens when a G1 driver drives in another province or the the US? Do they have to follow Ontario rules as well as the rules of the jurisdiction you're in? Thanks

Yes, your G1 licence restrictions still apply outside the Province of Ontario. You’d also have to abide by any other applicable laws for the jurisdiction that you’re driving in. It would be dependent on the actual jurisdiction, their local laws and any applicable exemptions for non-residents.

So for example, if Province XYZ allows novice drivers to drive at night, you still couldn’t since your G1 licence prohibits it. Province XYZ might also require that any accompanying driver have 6 years of experience instead of Ontario’s 4, in which case Province XYZ’s requirement would likely supersede Ontario’s.

Was there a specific requirement and/or location that you’re wondering about?
