$375 Ticket For Parking In A Handicapped Spot With 4 Day Expired Permit

by: Libertylass on

Last night I received a $375 parking ticket for parking in a handicapped parking spot. I have 2 children- my youngest has a physical disability and my eldest child has a mental disability. I have had a handicapped parking permit since my youngest child was 2 years old, however, it expired 4 days ago. I didn't know that it had expired, or I would have asked for a renewal from my doctor. I did not receive a notice from the government. Obviously, the officer who ticketed me saw that my permit had only recently expired, but he still chose to give me this outrageously expensive ticket. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fight this? This occurred in London, Ontario. I am not in a financial position to pay this ticket and I feel that it would have been more appropriate for the officer to give me a warning that my permit had expired. Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions!
