$450 Disabled Loading Zone Ticket

Unread post by dorianromeo »

I deliver parcel for canada post and drive all day in downtown area, It was hot we have no air conditioning in the truck feeling sick and needed to use the restrooms and I was in the University of Toronto area very hard to find parking, I am responsable for that ticket. Can I fight it? Will this affect my insurance rate?

Dont worry, parking tickets have no effect on insurance. You can certainly fight the ticket, but I dont think the reason why you were parked there is sufficient justification. It would probably be more a matter of having the Crown show that you were parked in a disabled loading zone and having the bylaw officer attend Court to testify. The other option is to speak with the prosecutor and work out a plea deal in exchange for a reduced fine. Doesnt Canada Post have some method of getting their parking tickets withdrawn? Or is that not an option since you werent technically on a delivery?

Its been said on these forums before, but those type of parking fines are outrageous. Careless driving, arguably the most serious traffic offence, carries a much lower fine then your parking ticket.

The city of Toronto released some guidelines for cancelling parking tickets. I think they might apply to your case (delivery truck driver on delivery). I don't have the link, but if you google it you might get an answer there. I'm not 100% sure, but give it a shot...

In most cities Toronto included, there is a ten minute leeway.

It allows parking in any no parking spot or lane way /lane.

It does not include any other spot.

Your necessity may be ok though.

Run it past the DA and at least get it down to $40.

You may be able to do it over the phone.

Cheers
