Re: Ideas how to Improve Highway Safety

I agree with all that was said here in this thread, but I have a feeling that none of that will be implemented for one simple reason - IT MAKES SENSE.

If your feelin' confident.... GET CHARGED!! ;)

That would be an impressive way to demonstrate your conviction (in more ways than one), but unnecessary. You're a citizen of Canada, the law applies to you, the law is an assault on you, and there's no other effective way to challenge it. Kvetching in an online forum, even as admirable a one as this ...

You also say that the cop accelerated further, even though it must have been apparent that the collision is imminent. Could that be classified as "using a vehicle as a weapon" or "dangerous driving failing to prevent a collision"?

If 12 degrees is right, then the beam at 100m is indeed 21m in diameter, which is closer to 6-lane highway. HWYBear confirms is here. Lidar's beam is only 30 cm in diameter at this distance.

Yes. Having legal training, formal or not, or experience is more than welcome to be applied here, but not strictly necessary.

Racer, I was going to represent my wife at her upcoming trial. Is this allowed? I see that you mentioned that the relative has to be trained in law. Is this always the case for a husband representing the wife?

Yes, you can represent a family member.
No, you do not need formal training. If you are self-educated, you can work easily. Having ...

Some crazy driving conditions

If some of the regulars are wodering as to why I was not posting lately, that is because I was on vacation in San Andres Island, Colombia for a week. Was nice to spend some time away from TV, Internet, Computers, Cell Phones, and, most of all, winter. But the story is about driving there.

1-st off, the speed limit is 30. The island is about 13 km ...

Try to re-take your pictures. Also, since you probably have an old(ish) camera, replace the dead button cell battery. Most cameras have a small button cell battery (usually a 1216 or similar size) that keeps the clock "ticking". Try to locate that.

Re: adjournment, a second time

As had been mentioned in a few past posts, you can have either a registered paralegal, a lawyer, or a relative (just anyone cannot represent you! Not anymore at least). However, you are running a risk as your relative might be removed from a courtroom if his/her behaviour is viewed as incorrect, or if JP feels that he/she does not have a clue about ...

I think it is a good idea, but I think that there is no real need to have the cutoff point at this time. I can see where you are coming from (want more-or-less regular posters), but I think one or two junior members would love blog, as their posts are similar to blog comments. Also, how would the blog page link look like? Something like www.ohta.ca ...

If the charge is for the Ontario Highway Traffic Act infraction, then you may send a paralegal without even setting your foot in court.

Re: 2 tickets - worth negotiating?

To drop the no insurance ticket you have to go to the police station. Then discuss/fight your improper U-turn ticket with the prosecutor. Not having the proof of insurance is not the same as no insurance, and it is a standard practice for cops to repeal the ticket once you present them the proof of your insurance.

I think that here is an intersection with stop signs at North and South, and a pedestrian button-operated light to stop the traffic and cross the heavier traffic East-West street. The wheelchair pedestrian pushed the button, and whoever was driving on EW street, not used to seeing a red there, was confused and hesitated before stopping. This is not ...

OPP cruiser rear-ended, minor injuries sustained by 2 LEOs.

Got this from Guelph Mercury. Responding to a crash on intersection of Wellington Road 7 and Wellington Road 51, about 10 minutes drive from Guelph's north end, an OPP cruiser was rear-ended. Both officers sustained minor injuries, and the cruiser $5000 in damages. 43 year old man charged with "Careless Driving".
