Re: No insurance ticket
My insurance company covers any new cars I buy without specifically having to inform them. Do you have another car with insurance on it? If yes, check with your provider to see if it covers new cars you purchase. If no, then get a good lawyer.

Re: Impact of new Supreme Court ruling regarding trial limit
Does anybody know where the 10 to 12 months thing comes from? Is there it just based on Askov and Morin cases or are there some newer cases (before Jordan) that set that limitation?

Re: class g1 driver unaccompanied by a qualified driver
There is NO DEFENSE for this ticket at all.
However you can plead NOT GUILTY and request a trial with the officer present. Once you get your Notice of Trial in the mail, you can request disclosure (copy of officers notes). Once you get officers notes, scan them and post them here.
The only way you can beat this ticket is:

It sounds like the wrong charge. Did you actually stop? If you actually stopped then you can beat this charge.

Re: Summon, driving w/out insurance, first time offense
If the car insurance company says you were covered that day, then you were covered and there is nothing misleading. If they say you were not covered until a certain time on that day, then it would be misleading only if you tried to say you were covered before the time the insurance company says your coverage started.

Re: Summon, driving w/out insurance, first time offense
Well even if the prosecutor drops both the CAIA charges, you could still plead not guilty and request a trial and disclosure for the plate charge. Maybe the officers notes are missing something so at trial that one would get dismissed as well.

Re: Summon, driving w/out insurance, first time offense
Just get a letter from insurance that says you were FULLY covered (liability, accident benefits) for that specific vehicle (include VIN) on the 21st and that will be enough and dont worry about pink slip.

Re: Summon, driving w/out insurance, first time offense
It does not matter what the police officer told you on the side of the road. He has now written the tickets (summons) and it is out of his hands now. Only the prosecutor can withdraw the charges. Even if you get the officer to admit under oath that he did say that, it still does not matter as he changed his mind and wrote the tickets.

Re: Summon, driving w/out insurance, first time offense
You need to ask your insurance company for letter that gives the specific date AND time your insurance coverage was re-instated. The time is very very important. If the time is at or before the time on the ticket then the prosecution will have to drop that ticket for not having insurance as you now have proof that you did have insurance. However if ...

Re: Summon, driving w/out insurance, first time offense
When you show up to court, it is a summons date, NOT your trial date.
You should plead NOT GUILTY and request a trial date and a copy of disclosure (officers notes).
Once you get the dislcosure you should hire a lawyer because the charges a very very serious and not only is the fine huge, but your insurance rates will sky rocket as well.

1. No idea. Most self-represensented people don't know what they are doing, so maybe was doing this to be nice and try and give you more time to think about it. But honestly, we will never know why.

Re: Failing to stop for a school bus / handheld device
Early resolution is most likely a waste of time as you can just meet with prosecutor before trial to discuss plea deals options. But most likely they wont offer much of anything in the way of plea deals in this case.
Any ways you should plead NOT GUILTY to both and request a trial with the officer present. Once you get your Notice of Trial then ...

Re: 106 in an 80 while passing
In Ontario speeding is absolute liability meaning you either were or you were not speeding. Somebody driving slower than everybody else is not a reason to speed. Officer in unmarked car is irrelevent. Speed limit was 80, so even if you pass at 81 then you were speeding.

Re: Speeding ticket with fatal error?
You can call 30 days from the ticket date and if they don't know the status, then call back every couple weeks thereafter until they can tell you what happened.
