Re: obstruct plate
That lady on our legal tender happens to be the Queen of Canada , but yes - we have a queen because of our relationship with the United Kingdom. However, are you saying that common law is the only valid law, and anything enacted after that is not valid unless consented to by every individual ? And assuming that, does not choosing to live in this ...

Re: plaincloths officer stopped me for not checking
I doubt you are able to withdraw consent as an individual. You may do so as a majority of society, by electing/pressuring goverment that will repeal the unpopular laws. Even a small minority can bring about changes now, with teh interwebs and cable TV, but the individual is still relatively powerless.

Re: plaincloths officer stopped me for not checking
I think the majority of our laws are "Acts of Parliament" (are they still called that at the provincial level?).
I should withdraw my consent to the BNA/Canada Act. That Union Jack sure is sexy.

Re: obstruct plate
Come on, you have to admit Toronto is one of the most "American" cities in Canada. I lived there for over ten years and during that time I learned very little about Canadian culture. I did know about the latest catchphrases, fashion trends, music developments, and other stuff from across the border.

Re: obstruct plate
"Right to travel freely" sounds like mobility rights. It is outlined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (not the Bill of Rights) and reads as such:
Mobility of citizens
6. (1) Every citizen of Canada has the right to enter, remain in and leave Canada.
Rights to move and gain livelihood
(2) Every citizen of Canada and every person who has ...

Re: obstruct plate
The highways can be travelled on foot and on bike, as well as by bus or taxi.
Do you have a quotation of the section you are referring to? The closest thing I can find is our right to mobility under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which do not guarantee the use of highways.

Re: plaincloths officer stopped me for not checking
True. Although I don't think many people even know that a valid reason is not needed (I didn't until I just read it on this site) and the officer chose to give a simple reason to avoid conflict.

Re: plaincloths officer stopped me for not checking
Technically, you can be pulled over to see if your paper work is in order.
I have heard of cases where the officer says " I pulled you over because your signal was flashing too fast" or similar and the JP tosses the case. Why officers don't just say they were checking documents is beyond me.

Getting a license plate and a driver's license are not rights. If the terms are violated then the privilege can be revoked.

Re: failing to signal
Then you would have to signal.!!!
If you ever want to leave whoever is behind you there. You do the bookem
thing.
I had that done to me one time and no way are you gonna catch them if done just as the light changes.
Cheers

Re: obstruct plate
Well I can understand a licence plate being a tool to identify a vehicle....but a plate doesn't need to be registered or have a province name slapped across it in order to be identifiable. I mean, you could stick anything on it for it to have a uniqueness that could be identified. Usually criminals who abduct children or commit robberies steal a ...

Re: failing to signal
You could be going straight (if the road allows) or wanting to merge back into a through-lane.viper1 wrote:I don't think you need to signal if you are in a lane that clearly indicates it is a turn lane. (what else would you be doing?)
Or you could be one of bookm's co-stars and be looking to pull a turn across all lanes of traffic.

Re: Almost in an Accident
I had a similar experience on the 401 almost a month ago. In my case, I did not move as I will not leave my lane for anything unless I can be sure the next lane over is clear. In this case, it wasn't clear 10 seconds ago and I didn't have time to check again, and I was also next to a solid line. Driver hit my passenger quarter panel and took off, I ...
