Re: Crooked parking
I know that the Toronto by laws have a provision for a motorcycle's angle to the curb (max 60deg). That's because many motorcycles park perpendicular to the curb. If a careless operator hits one motorcycle, it can cause a domino effect. However, if there is a maximum of 3 motorcycles (also a by law) and they're parked at an angle of 60 degrees ...

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
The problem is that a written statement being accepted as testimony makes the process less transparent. I can see several cases where the constable showing up in court would be in the interest of justice.
1) Where the constable has made a genuine error. I've read the transcripts of a proceeding where after detailed questioning, the constable's ...

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
Bear, we are a bit spoiled here in Ontario. You come off as a 100% honest guy and a great majority of our constables is like that.
I grew up in Serbia during the Milosevic era. At that time, it was fairly common for a person to get beaten, put into a van, beaten some more in the van, taken into the station, get beaten some more, taken out of the ...

Re: Interesting article about court appearances. Opinions?
The thought of sending in a certified statement is excellent. Apparently QC does this (anyone confirm?). So when someone challenges an offence they send in a statement, officer sends in a statement, both to be reviewed by a JP. The JP will then have the ability to ask for further clarification by either person and render a decision. Person does ...

In my case, I cruise at the same speed. See a cruiser, check speed, back off the throttle and/or downshift, pray. Speed X refers to my cruising speed.

Re: Is this for real?
Speaking of hospitals... I've seen Toronto and Peel constables give seriously injured people tickets in the emergency rooms. While those people might have violated the law, they already have to deal with:
1) A totalled vehicle
2) Insurance premium increases
3) Heavy bodily injuries with all the fixin's (surgeries, recovery, physio...)
If that doesn ...

Re: What happens when legislation gets out of hand
Discretion? Re-read my post. I was actually doing 115. By the way, that was not the only occasion or the only vehicle for that matter where the "stated" speed was 5-10km/h less than the actual speed, but the constable "did me the favour" of "dropping" the ticket down to the actual speed.

Re: Impaired boating
I'm pretty sure you could get charged with impaired. What if you're in a kayak with a kid and you're drunk, you capsize it and the kid drowns?

Re: What happens when legislation gets out of hand
Typical example: Doing 115 goin' up 400. Pulled over (OPP in this case as I was near the north end).. The constable takes my docs, they check out, comes back with the ticket basically saying "I caught you you doing 122, but I cut you a break and dropped it down to 115."

Re: What happens when legislation gets out of hand
This is a fairly common scenario for me...
I'm doing Xkm/h. The constable tells me that I was doing X+5 to 10 but because he's such a nice guy, he'll drop the ticket down to X.
Guess what would happen if I were lidared/paced doing 140-145 on the 407........
By the way, how do they evaluate your performance on h.t.a. enforcement duty?
Logic ...

What happens when legislation gets out of hand
More than 140 people reluctantly accepted that deal from June 2006 to June 2008, according to court records. Among them were a black grandmother from Akron, Ohio, who surrendered $4,000 in cash after Tenaha police pulled her over, and an interracial couple from Houston, who gave up more than $6,000 after police threatened to seize their children ...

Re: Legality of Mohawks on helmets
Thanks Bear. I have been pulled over by one of your colleagues once on the 407. He didn't ticket me for the helmet, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't shootin' craps, especially since just about every decent lid on the market has popup vents.
