Prohibited From Driving Because Of Old Insurance Fine.

Unread post by wopette71 »

I was wondering if someone could help me with some information? I was arrested back in 1997 for driving without a licence and no insurance. I was sentenced to 2 weeks in jail and given the automatic $5000.00. This incident occurred in Toronto on King Street West. Now, I did my time in jail and have never, ever gotten myself in trouble again. For 13 years now my finances have not allowed for me to address the fine and as such I have not been able to go for my licence for all these years. I am now in the position of asking for time to pay the fine down.

Now my questions are:

After all this time can I ask for a reduction in the fine and time to pay it off?

And do I have to make these arrangments at the same courthouse where I was sentenced? I live 3 hours away from the city now and don't drive.

A fine reduction? Might be too late for that right now, but you probably could discuss a payment schedule, etc. The best bet to get started would be to contact the courthouse where you were convicted.
