Re: Obtaining 3rd Party information
When you are in an accident, are you required to give any information to the other party like insurance policy number? I thought giving it to the police was enough.

Re: Bad Drivers?
Although... I will say that I've seen quite a few cases where people will just pass the cop car. Once someone does it and there is no traffic stop that immediately ensues, everyone else follows suit, usually keeping it within 15 km/h of the limit.

Re: Charges laid in rural hit and run - dead horse
If I was the driver charged, I'd be more concerned with lawsuits than driving charges brought by the crown. This horse was a working horse. The owners could go after the driver for loss of income. The fact that it was an Olympic contender only increases the potential damages that will have to be paid. I'm sure that numerous lawyers have already ...

Re: Bad Drivers?
Now my turn  people complain when police are above the speed limit, when we drive the speed limit and someone passes the marked cruiser and they get stopped people complain.....almost darned if you do, darned if you don't?
Ya, there's been a few discussions lately about how police should set an example and all that. But as bear points ...

I have requested a trial. Do I wait for a trial date to ask for disclosure, or request disclosure now?

Re: Failure to surrender insurance
I should add that when I was charged with not surrendering insurance, it wasn't under the highway traffic act. So if I was on a private lot, I still could have been charged.

Re: Failure to surrender insurance
I think they can ask for these on private property is the vehicle has plates on it. Once you can has plates, your are responsible for having a license, insurance, ownership.
But I don't think they can charge you with a moving violation in a private parking lot since the HTA does not apply.

Re: Odometer fraud
I think it's illegal since it would constitute insurance fraud. Your policy only allows you x number of kilometers per year. I've heard of insurance companies using the odometer reading in order to not pay out on claims, based on the fact that the policy holder had broken the terms of the policy by driving over the allotted amount.
Also, you're ...

Re: Whats the charge for driving without eyeglasses/contacts?
I really can't see anyone ever getting charged with this since it's such a hassle to prove. My license says that I have to wear corrective lenses. I always wear contacts and they're next to impossible to see once they're in.

Re: 2 tickets i'd need some advice i think one is invalid
I would ask for a trial date on both offenses, then request disclosure. Do your research and see if you can fight the stop sign offense. I've heard others say that the stop sign needs to be written in the town by-laws. Go to city hall and see if a by-law was written authorizing the placement of the stop sign. If they forgot, then you can get off on ...

Re: Brantford judge doubles her own fine (in Hamilton court)
The Ontario Provincial Police were called in by Hamilton police Dec. 15 to investigate a complaint. OPP investigators allege they uncovered the "illegal handling" of a ticket.
Well if I had gotten off with a reduced fine, and then heard that a provincial investigation had been opened on the matter... I'd do the same thing she did - ask to pay ...

Re: Failure to surrender insurance
I remember kids in high school counterfeiting those pink insurance slips. They were perfect copies, they even had the perforations along the edges. I thought it was rather ridiculous since I was convinced they could be verified in real time. Now I know that it's the system that's ridiculous. I mean, if you can't verify in real time, why ask for the ...

Also, he marked the location of the infraction as and intersection, but not which side of the intersection (example: south east corner)

Re: Was this ticket improperly written?
OK, how about this one:
There is a field below the plate number that has 2 boxes. One says Commercial, the other CVOR. Both has boxes where you're supposed to check YES.
The officer put a line through it making it look like he checked Yes, it was a commercial vehicle (mine is not)

Was this ticket improperly written?
On the lower part of the ticket I got, there is a space where the officer had to fill in my vehicle identification. Next to the plate number, he entered 09 as the year, and then the make of the car. My car is no where close to an '09. Is this enough to get me off the hook?

Re: Driver clocked at 250 km/h
I'd say it was a stunt. It's the middle of winter and the 400 is cratered with pot holes. It's real easy to not see one of the holes at night, driving that fast. You'll loose control. Plus, he was driving with snow tires at the time. What's the speed rating on those?

Failure to surrender insurance
I got a ticket for failure to surrender insurance because I did not have my new insurance stubs with me, just a bunch of expired ones. My policy number has not changed, so I asked the officer to just run the policy number so I could prove that I was in fact insured. He said they don't have that ability, handed me the ticket and reminded me that my ...
