Re: blue lights

I've always been curious to know why it is that after acknowledging that blue lights are safer at night, they have not been approved for all emergency vehicles. I don't think the argument that it's to allow people to instantly recognise a car or SUV as a police vehicle is sufficient to deny all emergency personnel the same level of protection ...

Re: Government proposes random breathalyzer tests

If the law has an effect such as it has in Australia or Ireland......I'm all for it.

Police can stop and search my car anytime they want, nothing illegal in it. If it would get one less gun off the street preventing a murder, getting dope off the street to prevent one more person from becoming hooked.....I'm all for it....5 min of my time ...

Re: Yellow speed limit signs

Glad to see that I know what I'm talking about (sometimes...). I took a look through the forum but didn't find the thread about this same topic, I appologize for the repetition.

Does anyone know where one can find the specific wording that says that yellow signs are advisory, therefore not enforceable? My supervisor and I are in a debate on this ...

Yellow speed limit signs

I've been looking online without success, so I'm hoping someone here will be able to help. I know that white signs are regulatory and are associated with a fine when disobeyed. I want to prove a point, but before I do, I need to know if yellow speed limit signs, such as those found on on- and off- ramps are regulatory, or if they are warning. If ...

Re: State Trooper Loses it On Parademic Ambulance Driver!

Transport priority takes into account both the patient's condition and stability. As for myself, yes, I would pull-over if any emergency vehicle was attempting to pass me. However, if a LEO follows me onto the shoulder, that's when it becomes a different story. However, we are very fortunate that we medics have a great relationship with our PD.

Re: Blowing RED lights

I agree 100% T-bone collisions (along with multiple roll-overs) have a high fatality rate, even at low speeds. For those of you wondering why, it's because the aortic ligament, which hold the aorta (aretery leading directly out of the heart, about the diameter of your thumb), tears and allows the vessel to endlessly flop around in your chest...and ...

Re: State Trooper Loses it On Parademic Ambulance Driver!

Did the officer have the right? Yes, of course. It is part of his job. Was it morally correct? That can only be answered in hindsight which is always 20/20.

I would still answer "yes," since the ambulance had no lights on (which wouldn't affect the patient as sirens might); however he should have been allowed to proceed once it was clear that a ...

Re: MPP (PC Leader Candidate) wants speed limit Increased

I found this 2003 report for the BC Ministry of Transportation in regards to changes in the speed limit (mostly increases). It's an interresting read.

Re: MPP (PC Leader Candidate) wants speed limit Increased

Bear, I completely disagree with you. The photo radar solution just reinforces the belief that slow=safe and everything else (such as due care+attention and lane discipline be damned). The enforcement community should shift the emphasis on careless and jerkoff drivers.

I have always wondered why we are fixated on "speed = collision, speed ...

Re: MPP (PC Leader Candidate) wants speed limit Increased

I know the local council here raised some rural roads from 80km - 90km this spring. However the local police have taken a zero tolerance policy in these areas. I travel on them while working and the speeds are almost all 85-95 and that is it. Prior I would see several over 100km....I really can't understand, higher speed limit, but overall lower ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...

FiReSTaRT makes an excellent point. I advise people to not remove people from cars/trucks (i.e: unconcious) unless such action puts their life in danger, such as fire, drowning, etc...

An example is an MVC which I attended in November. Head-on collision between Cavalier and Sunfire/Grand Am. Vehicle speeds were approx. 97 km/h and 88 km/h at point ...

Re: Bad Wreck down the road...

Kudos to Bookm for rendering assistance. :D Too many people these days just drive by without giving a second thought about the people involved. Some argue they don't have the tools...true, but simply one's presence can provide much relief to accident victims.

I have always expressed that speed in itself does not kill. As mentioned, it does reduce ...

Re: Crooked parking

I've read my city's by-law and it does not mention anything about the requirement of parking within the lines. I've never seen a vehicle with a ticket for taking up more than one space. Not only inconsiderate drivers, but also vehicles with trailers, buses, etc...

However, if it's on-street parking, wouldn't that fall under the HTA?
