Most driver's training courses always stress that, while on the highway such as 400 series, it is best practice to keep the right lane clear to allow for easier merging/exiting for other drives
I was taught "lane of least resistance," (Young Drivers) meaning the one offering the most forward visibility. I usually just keep right because most of ...

Re: Transport Trucks limited to 105 km/h?
Driving in the middle lane of the highway is also an offence
How often is that enforced? From what I've seen, almost no one except the truckers and the very rare driver drives in the right lane. When I drive on the 401 between Windsor and Tilbury, which is mostly three lanes in each direction, I have the right lane all to myself because ...

Re: Speed, Highway Safety & 172
And graduated driving was a huge success........... end sarcasm.
Graduated licensing is better than nothing. At least new drivers aren't given full privileges immediately. Some places you can take a written test one day and then within a month go for your road test, no restrictions. If the gov't was really interested in safety, they'd repeal ...

Re: Section 172 the illegal legislation governing street racing
Be careful with quoting, I've never said that
Sorry 'bout that.
Should've done this:
Quoting Tim Mulcahy: "I was just shocked at the amount that the boys discuss cars and how fast they are and how much they like racing."
The crash happened when we had s. 172 in effect. It didn't stop it. It won't stop similar incidents from occurring ...

Re: Ideas how to Improve Highway Safety
You have to wonder why the engineers designed the highways with all of these disappearing/reappearing right lanes... I guess it was just the most convenient thing to do.

Re: Speed, Highway Safety & 172
I agree with most of what you're saying. To add to it:
Infact there was a study done by the University of Toronto which recommended a speed limit of about 130 km/h on the 401 or somewhere near the 85th percentile.
Here is that study:

Re: Section 172 the illegal legislation governing street racing
too many loose definitions
Anything and everything that you do while driving a car could be considered "racing" or "stunt driving" with that set of definitions. Also the legislation gives absolutely no protection or recourse for innocent motorists. :x
Exactly, then it would be "on-line" with the 90 day suspension (ie charged with ...

thank you....I personally can not support the petition with both the items involved in there.
We'll probably have to agree to disagree on how far to go with amending s. 172. Hypothetically, would you consider signing it if it was to remove the vehicle impoundment?
if it is laid incorrectly, for any reason. Song lyric goes here......."Wrong ...

Coles notes on petition:
Revise section 172 so that no up-front penalties are imposed on motorist at roadside. (No 7-day vehicle impoundment, no license suspension.) After-conviction penalties to remain unchanged. At least that's what it was when I signed it a while ago.
and the stats thing keeps being brought up

Re: Disobey Stop Sign - Fail To Stop
If you're going to set a trial for a future date you might as well write your disclosure request and submit it at the courthouse. Make sure you get an affadavit signed by a Commissioner of Oaths showing that you submitted your request. Specifically request the officer's notes but also "an explanation and clarification of the charge" and "all ...
