Re: Defective brakes does the owner of the vehicle get the ticke

Yes, whenever I drive someone else's car I conduct a thorough check of all mechanical and safety systems (including crawling underneath) before I run down to the store :?

Yes I'm being sarcastic

A $10 fix-it ticket would be the normal choice of OUR local PD.

Re: The MPH Bee III radar gun's POP mode

I bugged my cop buddy about this once:

He said it's simple to testify on speeding tickets, "The Radar gun indicated a speed higher than the limit allowed so I pulled him over and gave him a ticket".

I asked him if he was supposed to get a visual opinion FIRST.

He quickly repeated his statement, amended slightly ;)
"The vehicle visually appeared ...

Re: Defective Braking System: $110

When was the last time you heard of transmission gears braking, or diff. gears letting go? LOL

Once I applied the parking brake on a car and it wouldn't release afterward (stranded). Haven't used one since ('cept for the occasional "e-drift" on snow, hehe).

Come up with a better design than cables that ALWAYS rust and seize and I'll use it ...

But the Crown may be sympathetic and dismiss the charge if you show him your lisence ASAP.

Re: Defective Braking System: $110

Just out of curiosity, if it is illegal to have a faulty parking brake, is it also illegal to NOT use a functioning one when parked??

Re: 117 in 80 with decent reason

I think you should go to court. The danger you were in when the second car also passed (right on your butt - very dangerous) caused you to accelerate much more than you normally would have in this situation.

You did what was prudent given the circumstances. The cop saw nothing. He just saw that big number on his radar gun and pounced! They don't ...

Re: 43 over in passing zone, Hwy 17E

It's just the way traffic enforcement is these days. It wasn't that long ago that passing other vehicles was considered part of normal driving and the associated speed increase was tolerated.

All bets are off these days. The McGuinty government can't keep its own financial house in order, so it convinces the general public that speeders are evil ...

Re: Yellow speed limit signs

Only white speed signs are subject to penalty. Yellow signs are "recommended" speed only. There is a discussion on here somewhere and I'm pretty certain Bear backed up this contention.

I'd imagine the "basic speed law" (not sure of wording) would apply though... 80kph max.?

Looks like you've got a great defense. Your truck held stationary when you put it in gear, as required by law. The officer had no right to tell you to, "hit the gas".

Re: Defective Braking System: $110

This has me a tad confused...

Is it called an "Emergency Brake" or a "Parking Brake"? I hear it called both.

Frankly, I would rather the e-brake NOT lock up the rear-end (under engine power). Lock up the rear in an emergency and the ars-end is comin' around quick!

It definitely seemed to hold the truck just fine for parking purposes though ...
