Hello everyone and welcome to Ontario Highway Traffic Act forum. I am a moderator for the "General Talk" section, and I will help out the admin to moderate the site. Please remember that this particular section is not just about the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, you can post your favourite recipes here for all I care, or ponder whether the TML will make the playoffs... . Please make an introductory post about yourself here to be welcomed to the forum! About the forum: I, admin, and any other moderator can edit your messages, and we will if they contain any offensive material, spam, references to adult material, any hate-related or discriminatory material, profanities, attacks on other forum members, or we can delete them altogether, but if there is no offensive material there, I guarantee that the post will remain intact. If the moderation team does not like your post for any reason other than the ones listed above, we will contact you via PM with request to change your message. Repeat offenders will be notified, and if their behaviour doesn't change - banned. Spambots will be banned immediately upon discovery. Also please DO NOT POST IN ALL CAPITALS, as this resembles shouting. Posts in all caps will be deleted regardless of content. Remember that people of all backgrounds come to this site, so please do not make fun if someone misspells or makes any grammatical or otherwise error. Please, let us work together and make this yet small, but growing community, a fun place to visit time and again. Also please visit our FAQ section. The page contains a great deal of resources regarding the forum's technical aspects, login problems, and generic forum usage. Please also visit the BBCode usage page for BBCode to assist you with formatting your replies. If you get unwanted private messages (ie advertisements, not other user's messages) or any offensive material over our private message system please PM me and I will work with admin to resolve the issue, as this is likely to be done by a spammer. Also, please do not respond to these PMs in any way, especially if that mentions a web address - do not go there. Remember that neither me nor the admin will ask you for any personal information or passwords, if you get messages asking you to give away your password or any info, or contain any material you find offensive to you, please report them to me immediately via PM. Including the original message in the body using quote (if you are not sure how to use quote, see BBCode usage page, close to the end of the post) will also help. We will not tolerate abuse over our private message system, and violators will be banned. Police. We realize that you might be upset with the police after receiving a ticket. However, this is not the place to promote anti-police views or hate towards the police. The job of a policeman/policewoman is much more than writing out traffic tickets, and in no way reflects the entire police force. If you believe that the LEO had treated you unfairly or made a mistake, make a post about it to start a civilized discussion. Please Do Not Post any Police Officers' Name, Contact Info, Or Any Other Identifiable Material of the LEO that issued you a Traffic Ticket. This Forum will Remove any reference to any individual LEO that you had dealings with. This Forum is Not the place for individual Police Complaints. We understand you might be frustrated with the LEO that issued you a Traffic Ticket, but this is not the place to vent your frustration about the individual LEO. You may talk about the Police in General, but please do not name the LEO, or your post will be subject to Moderation, and a Warning will be issued to your member account. If you need more information on Police Complaint Procedures, Please Visit: The Ontario Civilian Commission on Police Services Linking out. Please do not post any links to: offensive material, spam, adult material, any hate-related or discriminatory material, terrorist organizations, virus-infested sites, adware-infested sites, any malware-infested sites. As a guideline, if you would not like to end up on the site, do not post it. Signatures. We do not allow advertisements in a signature. You can post a web link in your signature, but not an advertisement or endorsement for it. All rules applying to regular posts also apply to signatures and weblinks in signatures. Double posts. If you feel that your issue falls under 2 or more categories, select the one which is either the most applicable, or, if you cannot choose, the one which is the most severe. If you have already made 2 or more posts about the same issue, chances are that one of the threads will take off and the other one won't. The one that doesn't take off will be deleted. Also, sometimes a glitch occurs that causes your response to be shown twice. If that happens, please delete one of them. You can delete your own posts. Otherwise a moderator will remove such an occurence. RSS Feed. We have a RSS feed that shows the latest posts made on the forum. Grab it here! Advertise With Us! Hi, Dave from Ottawa. 45 years ago I was a crazy teenager and had dozens of traffic tickets but now just a relaxed accountant. I found this site looking for answers about my recent speeding ticket down south. Happy driving all!

Hi everyone, just registered to ask a question about my first moving violation charge in 30+ years of driving. Many thanks to the folks that volunteer their time to answer questions posted on this site. I find a lot of the threads and posts very interesting and informative.

Re: New Member? Come and say Hi and Introduce yourself here! :)

G'day all! I admit having visited this site years ago for help/inspiration to fight a 20-over ticket in a 40 zone which ALSO happened to be a CSZ (in other words, looking at significant points and a hefty fine).I'm glad to say I avoided that charge, and feeling sorry that I didn't "pay it forward" to help others who would end up in my shoes (but hoping I can begin that process now). Being unsure of how to "find myself" on here, or if/whether i'd even still be on-file, I re-registered as a newbie (my contact info would have been different back then anyway). I'll also admit that my return to this site had a lot to do with questions I'd like to post about dashcam footage i recently saw online, of a horrific 2 vehicle collision a couple of years ago in BC, which sadly resulted in a fatality. The accident consisted of a left-turner who got T-boned, and I was curious about how the HTA would apply if the accident happened here. Hopefully s'one can guide me to the right area of the Site, where my question (and answers to it) belong. Otherwise keep up the good work informing us drivers of our rights when it seems we mightn't have gotten a fair shake (but gently reaffirming we did if/when it was an obvious, unprovoked and self-inflicted dumb move);) Cheers

Dear Moderator Despite being an "occasional" visitor, I might well come here more-frequently now, as a number of my friends often contact me after running afoul of driving rules and receiving offenses contrary to the HTA. Many would say "just send them the link and let them do their OWN due diligence" however I've now retired (and they haven't) so thought I'd just use some of my time constructively. A friend from Ottawa recently contacted me about ASE which is used quite-extensively there. And despite the bylaws seemingly being iron-clad and non-contestable in traffic court, I think one particular incident I recently became aware of, might justify some discussion on your forum. Is there a direct link to ASE- related posts? Cheers Left_Turners_R_Toast

Dear Left_Turners_R_Toast, Thank you for considering our Forum board. We value your time and are very grateful for your participation and bravo to you for being a good friend! As I personally am not too knowledgeable about Albert specifically, we do have an Alberta dedicated Forum if you would like to start any Alberta related discussions there. Re: New Member? Come and say Hi and Introduce yourself here! :

Hi Racer As per your suggestion --and although I'm a returning member rather than new-- I'm just saying "Hi" to other members old and new. As a recently-retired boomer with no specific training or experience pertaining to the HTA, folks looking for that kind of help might elect to seek the advice of others. But nearly 45 years on the road does certainly bring a healthy amount of experience in driving, dealing with the Law, and what to do/say when things go sideways. If I could bottle this knowledge I'd make millions, but there just seems to be no other way to get it. Indeed many/most who come to this forum, somehow broke the Maxim of no tickets/no worries. Even many who have been here seemingly for-ever and/or consistently give great advice, have been in those shoes before. It's too late for us here to judge the recent offenders, and all we can do is help them through the "other" judgement process they'll now be facing,,,by those who hold almost all the cards. Cheers and best of luck to all Ray (Left_Turners_R_Toast)

Hello Concerned Citizens. I am a new member

I am motivated to join this group because it appears that Municipalities have found a way to milk citizens and deprive them of their hard earned money through the Camera-Based Automated Enforcement System, with total disregard to the presumption of incense enshrined in "The right to a fair trial protected under section 2(e) of the CANADIAN BILL OF RIGHTS and without the need to invoke the "Notwithstanding Clause"! A female owner of a vehicle registered in her name who does not have a drivers' license and never drove a car in her life is charged with an offence despite the fact that the driver of the vehicle at the time of the offence came forward and testified that he was the driver at the time! It is troubling that such defense, which totally exonerates the female owner of the vehicle from any responsibility for the offence, will not be accepted. It is equally troubling that the Mayor of the City of Ottawa declared, despite queries by counsels, that he is removing the right to appeal decisions in its newly contemplated "Administrative Penalty System (APS) for Parking and Camera-Based Automated Enforcement Violations for the City of Ottawa" I submit that raising the APS in the "Finance and Corporate Services Committee" speaks volumes about the "money grab" bad intentions of the system. I call upon the City of Ottawa and any other municipalities contemplating adopting a similar system to show some respect for the Rule of Law in this country including the CANADIAN BILL OF RIGHTS!
