I've searched and either I'm not hitting the key words or the topic hasn't been touched on before (which I doubt, but anyway...)
Just curious how long a HTA conviction stays on record (both on MTO and insurance) and does the "clock" start from the offence date or conviction date?
Thanks.

Re: What to do if you witness an HTA infraction
Actually, after rethinking this, once I stopped following him and then if I had called the police, what would stop him from stating exactly that - "he wasn't the person driving at that time"? Thus, unless I had continued to follow him and managed to attract a PC, I could only then claim that he was the actual driver that cut me off, in a deliberate ...

Re: What to do if you witness an HTA infraction
- did you see the officer stop the vehicle, thus being the person driving at that time is now identified
2. I don't understand this question since no officer actually stopped him - he got away from me (by blowing a red light) before I could find or attract a PC (as I had no cell phone).
The problem if you lost sight of the vehicle, prior to ...

FIDO. F$#K it drive on. It is a highway traffic infraction. Everyone has done something others have seen or annoyed other drivers. You were not hurt, No collision and You are not in danger once the vehicle is gone.
We get calls like this all the time. "A blue car cut me off on the 417." or a blue car is changing lanes fast . No plate no nothing ...

Re: What to do if you witness an HTA infraction
Simply contact the police when safe to do so. Once you have the other vehicle's information though (i.e. licence plate), I would stop following. You may have had good intentions, but it could easily make the situation worse.
True, following him only seemed to antagonize him and that wasn't my intent. The fact that he was doing some really ...

What to do if you witness an HTA infraction
What can you do if you witness an HTA infraction (or worse) but have no cell phone with you? I'll give an example I personally experienced.
Several years ago, I was driving on a 400 series highway, where one highway merges with another. There was a yellow speed limit posted of 70 kmh (which is the recommended speed but the limit was 100 kmh). I ...

Strange incident in Montreal Quebec
I was driving to my home in Ontario from Montreal on highway 132 a few months ago. As I was circling on an entrance ramp, a car came right up on my bumper - only a couple of feet away (it was evening and dark out, so I couldn't identify the car behind me - his lights were blinding me). As I completed circling around and sped up to merge onto the ...

Re: New Speed Trap Regulations
I can't see how speeding down a hill and a cop catches you at the bottom, would constitute entrapment. You take your foot off the gas peddle and/or use the brake to ensure you're at or below the speed limit. If you're over the limit, that's your fault, as you should be in control of your vehicle at all times.

Re: 122 in a 90, received some disclosure need help decipher
I'll never forget being stopped in Quebec years ago. I was doing the limit (50 km) but the officer said I was doing 93. I was completely flabbergasted and asked her (politely) if it was possible her gun had caught traffic going in the opposite direction, as I was certain I wasn't speeding. She agreed, apologized and left. Radar, it seems, wasn't ...

You cannot hire a paralegal in Quebec. It's either a lawyer or DIY.
You can respond to the ticket with Not Guilty and wait for a hearing date (currently the wait is greater than 2 years). Once you receive the hearing notice, you can call the Crown Attorney to ask for a reduction / plea bargain. They will likely do so. Be polite...

Re: Speeding in QC - 11b Motion
Just as advice, after much research I've found out paralegals are not permitted in Quebec courts - lawyers only. So if you want to challenge on an 11B, I suggest you get a good lawyer and have spare $$$.

Re: 47 kph over in Quebec
Alright, so I received a Notice of Hearing last week for a date in November. I called the Crown Attorney and ask to plea bargain, which they agreed to... we agreed to 129 km over and the fine dropped from $314 to $164 (includes fees), and the points dropped from 4 to 3.

Re: 159km/h in 100 zone
Simon, severe in what sense? Insurance or license? Would insurance cancel the policy on a conviction like this? Do they actually look at the speed value on only that it's with the range of exceeding the limit 30 to 49? Thanks.
