Guess your not following this too closely....this practice has also been done by the Windsor Police, Thunder Bay Police.
And it is not jury rigging at all. An example of that would be putting people on the jury who have all had someone killed by an impaired driver in a impaired driving causing death case.

this is in no way a shock to all of us who saw this coming back when Frank Klees emotionally drafted his ill-thought private members bill, blaming his drunk driving constituent's death on a pair of young guys speeding through an intersection
terrible law.....and the endless stories in the media keep proving it over and over

Fantino has been an excellent leader for us.
are you sure about that?

I'll pull out my tennis ball (can't afford the crystal ball) and gaze into the fuzzy side ...
The ball is predicting that the future holds a change to part of the act.
The vehicle impoundment part will be removed, but the 7 day suspension will stand.

^^^^ problem with your argument Plender....is that the HTA already had/has laws governing "speeding".....and those offences under the HTA are supposed to be absolute liability....172 tries to blurr the lines between the HTA and the CCC....let alone tries to give new meanings to age-old definitions

tdrive - I'm surprised you're just discovering these details now
the details in section 172, that the media don't highlight....aside from the oohh/ahhh 50k over.....are the main reasons to have the whole enchilada repealed

To my understanding of Dangerous Driving, speed alone is not enough, there has to be other factors involved, but I could be wrong

question for Bear,
How come this guy wasn't criminally charged with Dangerous Driving?
I know of many motorcyclists that have been brutally thrashed by 172 for the likes of lifting the front wheel for a second (leaving a light...not catwalking down the hwy at 140 .lol) or lane splitting.....a bit hard to swallow when a guy going 2.5 times the ...

130km is a fatal zone line.......people are not developed to with stand sudden stops at those speed. Their organs can not take it and they obtain serious injuries and some often die..

I drove the 401 yesterday from Toronto to Kitchener and back
I've generally had the same driving behavior for decades - "try" to keep her under 120 (115 is the target....thinking I'll not get dinged)....stay right except to pass
Not gonna pretend I've never legged a car out on a deserted stretch, or been a left-lane bandit in a rush....but ...

Personally, I think the whole idea of making nitrous illegal is a joke. I think a few stuffy legislators watched the Fast & the Furious one too many times.

Re: Nitrous and its implications
that NOS stipulation in 172 is pretty straight-forward.....and I'm quite surprised that a cop would misinterpret it
for the system to be legal on the street, it can't be operational
but it is not illegal to simply have the system installed, as it's legal to run it at the track...not to mention on a show vehicle
so...to make the system ...

as it should have been dealt internally with this FireFighter.....pretty simple IMO.....copper clocks him, rings up the Fire Chief, allows the return of the vehicle to the Fire Dept and let's the driver deal with his penalty

Emergency vehicles are exempt under the regulations.
Wish that were true! We have 2 of our officers charged with this offence while in cruisers, only reason the vehicle was not towed....well actually they were towed....on a flatbed!
