Re: At What Age Does Parental Responsibility End

by: Radar Identified on

I would guess that, unless the Prosecutor and/or the officer really goofs it up, it will be very, very, very costly. Very.

I have 2 teenagers and I am interested how the second set of charges went. My daughter (the oldest) took our car TWICE (she was 16) without our permission and drove around with a bunch friends. She DIDN'T HAVE A LICENSE.... I consider myself lucky she didn't hurt herself or anyone else. I warned her the last time, if it happens again, I would call the police myself and report the car stolen. It hasn't happened since.

Keep us informed please... and know you're not alone. Teenagers !

So a quick rundown...

First offence:

Driving without incurance - $2500

Driving with plates not registered to the vehicle - Suspended

Driving with an invalid sticker - $100

Court Costs - +/- $1000

Sub-total - $3600

Second Offence:

Driving without incurance - $3000

Driving with plates not registered to the vehicle - $100

Driving with an invalid sticker - $100

Court costs - +/- $1000

Sub-total +/- $4200

Grand Total - +/- $7800

That's a rough start for a teenager who decided to move out of the house at 17 and just started working...

Oh and he didn't pay the "Invalid sticker" fine in time so license is now suspended (and he hopes to one day get insured).

Well the next "drive without insurance," which hopefully won't happen, will probably go into the $10 000+ category.

Is his car still impounded?
