I happen to know it's perfectly legal but I can't locate any specific section within the Highway Traffic Act regarding it.

Re: Is this Careless or a Mistake?
I rear ended a car when it suddenly stopped in front of me and I had to stop but I ended up catching both the gas pedal and the brake pedal with my foot when I tried to brake (very large feet). When I realized that my car wasn't stopping as fast as it should, I quickly lifted my foot and reapplied the brake but it lengthened my stopping distance ...

Re: Red Light Fail to Stop - Light changed to red half-way t
Well from reading what you said I say you should fight the ticket. From what you said about how he pulled someone over right after you it's pretty clear the cop was trying to meet a ticket quota. I'm not to sure on how tickets work as I have never gotten one, but I'm assuming they have a time they were issued at, so my thought is that if you can ...

Re: My stupid mistake
I was driving on a 2 lane road, and the bus was travelling in the opposite direction. I wasn't really paying attention, and I passed a stopped school bus with its lights on and arm out. I knew the law, but I made a dumb mistake. It was a 70km/h zone, and the bus honked at me but I'm not sure if they were able to get my details or or anything. I ...

Re: Turning right on a red light from Multiple Right Turn La
My understanding is that yes, it's legal, assuming you turn into the correct (far) lane.
Okay, thank you. I just wanted to be sure because some people told me traffic police (or what ever they are called) said that it isn't legal. I hate grey area's of the law like this. Logically it seems legal to me, but I'd really hate to get a ticket for ...

Turning right on a red light from Multiple Right Turn Lanes
I'm now living in Saint Catharines, Ontario and the other day I came to this intersection. You could only turn left or right because you could not go straight through cause there was a one way street. There were two lanes on the street I was on. There was a right turn lane and a left/right turn lane. The intersection is controlled by traffic lights ...

When there is a green light with a yellow left turn arrow. I was told by some people that if you're already in the intersection, you keep going and complete your turn but others say you stop. Railway crossing flashing lights
I got a question. When crossing a railway, I know you slow down, unless you hear a train, then you stop. But some of them have flashing red lights. Do you always stop for the lights, like you could almost be at the track and they could start flashing, you wouldn't be able to safely stop, so how would you know if you stop or not? Judge if it is safe ...

Is this running an amber light?
This morning on my way to work and I had this guy riding my a**. I was doing the speed limit (50km) cause it was 7:20 am and I was a bit tired. I normally don't go more than 55 km in a 50 zone anyways. The guy was probably no more than 6 feet from my rear. I approached an intersection and the light went amber, normally I would have stopped cause I ...

If the signal facing him changed to a full green, he didn't really fail to stop for the amber. However, if traffic had to wait for him to clear the intersection, I'd call it "Left turn - fail to yield to through traffic," contrary to section 141 (5) of the Highway Traffic Act.

He probably stopped because he was giving way for you to pull out (being a nice guy). Either that, or he was a clueless moron. (More likely he was being a nice guy... here in Toronto I'd say it's an 80% chance he'd be in the "moron" category, or a 110% chance in Brampton.)

The Highway Traffic Act doesn't cover parking lots so there isn't really any enforceable law that covers the scenario. I was under the impression that road tests take place strictly on roadways anyway, so I don't think you'd even run into that scenario.

Today after I left the gym I was making a left out of a parking space. I checked both ways and proceeded to go, I only pulled a little bit out of the parking spot, slowly of course cause it was a small crowded parking lot. As I was pulling out, another car about 3 spaces down (So two between us) to my right started pulling out at the same time as I ...

Re: Amber light and point of no return.
"Running a red light" is only if you ENTER the intersection on a red. Canada's Worst Driver, for example, repeatedly gets this wrong. In their "final challenge," if one of their drivers is in the intersection when the light turns red, they say this is running a red light. That is incorrect.

Re: Amber light and point of no return.
I'm asking because I'm going for my full G soon and I was told that you would fail if the light goes red before you get across the intersection, but most amber lights are like 2 or 3 seconds, so you aren't given much stopping distance. I stop if I can, but sometimes it feels like your testing your brakes and are praying that they don't fail you lol ...

Amber light and point of no return.
I find that a lot of amber lights are very short and I was always taught that if the light goes yellow you are suppose to stop if you can, and if you cant you keep going, but you are suppose to make it through the intersection before the light goes red or it's the same as running as red. IDK, I find that with some amber lights that they are way to ...

Your driving instructor is correct.
Section 144 (12) of the HTA allows you to enter on a green (well, no kidding). Once you've pulled in to the intersection, as you know, you just wait for traffic to clear and then turn when safely able. Now, here's where some confusion comes up. Section 145 allows by-laws to be passed prohibiting blocking an ...

I agree with you, I live in Collingwood and one night I was going home and I came to an intersection with a short amber light and the roads were extremely icy. Where to wait to make a left turn at a intersection.
Hi, I'm going to be going for my full G, and I'm a bit confused on where you are suppose to wait at an intersection to make a left turn. I took drivers ed, and my instructor always had me pull into the intersection when the light is green, then wait for the way to clear. My parents, who have had their licenses for almost 30 years tell me that you ...
