Re: Distance to follow...ask yourself
To be honest, I don't think that formula is very good... You need to take into account many variables, road condition, your tires, your vehicle stopping power, your own response time, other cars around you, open space to steer away to avoid a collision and who knows what else that I can't think of. There was a pilot program MTO tried in Oshawa back in early 90s when they had chevrons painted along 401 and signs stated to keep two chevrons apart. If my memory serves me right, keeping that distance would mean keeping 100-150 meters back at 100 kmh speed. The above is plain and simple chart for ...

Re: Radar detector offense
Not all cruisers are equipped the same. I will guess within our area...
About 15 cruisers, 10 moving radar units(radar affixed in cruiser), 2 handheld radar, 2 lidar, 2 RDD and one ALPR (automated licence plate reading).
So 13 units without a RDD.

Re: Paying ticket on due date, will my license be suspended?
as daggx mentioned call ASAP Tuesday morning. Last thing you need is to be suspended, as soon as that is logged onto your licence, it is listed on there forever and insurance can see that you were suspended. Then also need to pay MTO another fee to get your licence status reinstated, that's if it becomes suspended.

I don't understand what your getting at here? As my post above was a reference of distance travelled and coming to a complete stop with various speeds once a danger was detected.iFly55 wrote:
Also keep in mind that motorcycles and performance vehicles can stop 100-0kph in 30-35m.

Distance to follow...ask yourself
I didn't want to put two cents on another thread. I do have over 400hrs of speciality training in collisions. I know we see this all the time and to me it is just baffling. Why are people following too close on the highways and city streets? It takes an average of 1.5 seconds for someone to see a danger ahead and process that in their mind and tell their foot to step on the brake. It then takes about 1.5 seconds for foot pedal, to either mechanically or electronically advise the computer in the car to actuate the brakes, the hydraulics then push the fluid, then brake pads then grab the rotors,...

Re: New regulation in the news
Just adding onto this, the new crosswalk law, where you need to wait until the person completely exits the intersection. There is one right near the entrance of my work, and 9/10 times, someone is usually crossing. So I stop, wait for them to completely finish crossing, then proceed. I'd say out of all the times I do that, 50% of the time, people honk at me, and then speed right past because they don't know the new law. I feel like every renewal (5 years), drivers should redo a written test (similar to the G1) just to be re-familiarized with the rules of the road. The new crosswalk law to wha...

Re: Radar detector offense
I'm actually curious though if cruise control/crash avoidance radars would actually trigger the police detectors. I've read that certain radar detectors can get false positives from other vehicles, but I was under the impression that detector detectors were looking for a different signal then the radar itself. Exactly...the RDD is not looking for a radar signal. The avoidance systems do not trigger the RDD. If that were the case it would be a constantly activated as the cruisers have those systems too. Then add in probably 10% of vehicles now have those systems. I often go several weeks witho...

Re: New regulation in the news
The regulation is not HTA related... Topic MOVED Regulation mostly deals with people on foot. However, people still need to be cognizant of all laws. There are so many areas even within one Act, such as the HTA that people don't know, once an officer knows a section, then can enforce it. A couple come to mind that rarely people know. If a road has a crosswalk, people must use the crosswalk...which means no crossing anywhere else. Another is bicycle must have reflective tape on its forks at night. Just bringing it up, that was just a couple examples.....think of all the other laws, regulations ...

The RDD does not pick up radar signals or any of these vehicles sensors.evois wrote:yes, the new escalades have the adaptive cruise control that uses radar and that give a false beep and technically they cannot assume that a RD was in the vehicle?bend wrote:evois wrote:

Re: Radar and GPS
And the Lat/long on the ALPR means nothing anyway, it obtained and beeped at the location read by the camera, however can follow that vehicle, completing other checks, possibly waiting for another cruiser, and stop that vehicle many kilometres away, the offence location can be the new location stopped. Might use the GPS location if while following that vehicle then goes into a parking lot. Doesn't really affect much of anything in the big picture. doesn't take away common sense

Re: Possible made up six demerit point, $315 threat
To the bigger picture....you describe this as 4 lanes wide which is huge width to block.....I have often encountered this on the other perspective on a 2 lane road, we have minimal units and have to shut the road down, we do the best we can with the resources we have immediately at hand ( cruiser, maybe pylons and/or flares), we have called for road crews to bring signs and they get there when they can, so in meantime we do what we can. We are trying to preserve scene evidence and prevent contamination from other unnecessary traffic. these can often be criminal matters. I have had drivers driv...

Re: Police refuses to charge (175)
Yes owner of vehicle can be charged, would need a statement from the witness (you) and pending what you saw, a statement from the bus driver to ensure the overhead lights were operational. I would go farther and go see the bus myself and check the lights, on top of all the statements.

What program is that for your diagram?
Would be good for others to use too, clean, simple and good visual aid
