Hi everyone, I am from Montreal and was driving in Toronto a few days ago (on my way back to Montreal from Guelph) when I got pulled over for not yielding to a pedestrian at a pedestrian cross over. I have never seen a pedestrian cross over before (we don't have them in Montreal) and it looked like the guy was hailing a cab, not about to cross the street. I'm going to contest my ticket but I'm not sure if I should go with Option 2 (early resolution - meet with prosecutor) or Option 3 (trial). What would be the benefit of going with Option 2? Or should I just go straight to trial? Thanks for your help!

It depends what you're hoping for. At an early resolution meeting they'll probably offer you some type of deal (i.e. less serious charge and/or reduced fine), but if you want to fight the charge outright you'll have to go to trial. FYI, the fact that you're not familiar with pedestrian crossovers isn't a valid defence in Court. You'll have to find some other basis to fight the charge on.

I was curious if there is any way that demerit points can be reduced or taken off of one's record after the tickets have been paid. I know in Alberta one can take a 'safe driving course' after a certain amount of time with a clean record and get demerit points taken off. Is there any such…

Hi, thanks in advance for the help. Been driving for 10 years, clean record until today when I got slapped with two tickets. First: going 135 at 100 on the 401, second: not having a valid sticker (I recently moved and completely forgot about it)
My friend tells me I should fight the speed ticket,…
