Fail To Surrender Permit For Motor Vehicle

Unread post by mick25 »

Hi everyone

I was pulled over on July 26th. I was running an errand for my mom; had to buy something from the gas station which was less than a minute drive away from my house. Anyhow, the officer told me that he pulled me over because I did not stop at the stop sign. I told him I did stop then he said I "rolled through" the stop sign. He then asked me for my license, insurance and vehicle ownership. I gave him my license and the insurance but I couldn't find the vehicle ownership. So I got a ticket for "fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle", nothing about the stop sign. It was only after I got back to my house that I found the permit at the back of the book where my parents keep the permit in (it's my parents car but I'm included in the insurance). My dad told me to take it to trial. Is there a chance that I could have the ticket dropped?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Depends on the jurisdiction. Some busier ones will drop the charge outright if you can show you have valid paperwork. More likely you'll simply be offered a reduced fine if you plead guilty.
