Hi all, I would like some advice if I should fight this ticket. I was in a 60 zone entering a 50 zone without knowing it, and officer caught me with his laser gun, i was doing 70 at the time, so i was 20 over. the officer was nice and reduced it to 55, meaning its only 5 over and $30 fine with no demerits. I wouldn't mind paying $30, however, i'm concerned that the ticket might increase my insurance, since i'm still fairly young (23), then i would end up paying a lot more than 30$. So should i pay for the ticket and hope my insurance doesn't go up, or should i fight it?

Contact your insurance provider to find out if one conviction will impact your insurance. Just be aware if you go to trial the Crown will most likely raise the ticket back up to 20 over, which would be about a $100 fine and 3 demerit points upon conviction.

If you see the officer again, please be sure to commend him on his great police work for sitting at a speed change nailing people for 20 over and writing it up as 5 over.. What a waste of time - for what a few dollars in the local coffers?

I think this serves a dual purpose. Stops this from going to court and the offender gets no points........ As the original poster said he was doing 20 over, personally i would just pay it.
