by: Galahad2018 on

Here is one obscure parking signal around Toronto. Which one does it mean?

A) Parking is prohibited between 8:30am and 4:30 pm during July and August while Monday and Friday are exempted.

B) Parking is probihited between 8:30am and 4:30pm while Monday to Friday in July and August are exempted.

C) Parking is probihited between 8:30am and 4:30pm while Monday and Friday in July and August are exempted.

D) Parking is prohibited while Monday and Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm during July and August are exempted.

E) Parking is probihited while Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm during July and August are exempted.

I don't know if it's all that obscure.

It's no parking 8:30pm to 4:30pm (Monday to Friday) except during July and August, where you are free to park.

It's most likely beside a school where there is a runoff from available spots in the parking lots or where students pay for parking.

While I agree with bend's interpretation, as a computer programmer I can see how there are challenges with interpreting the logic based purely on reading the sign ;-)

There may be regulations which inform us on how to read the sign, of course.

I don't think anybody's claiming that the answer is B.

In fact, I don't think any of your options reflect the true (intended) meaning as bent said.

F) Parking is prohibited (between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday), except during July and August, during which there is no prohibition.

As I said above, the logic of getting there is a bit convoluted.

Did you actually get a ticket or is this just a thought exercise?
